I also can't switch to PC without losing my 1000+ hours on The Elder Scrolls Online too, Lol.

Btw here is my current PC

  • Intel Core i5-10600K CPU, 6 Cores / 12 Threads, 4.1 - 4.8GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB Graphics Card
  • 32GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory (2 x 16GB Sticks)
  • 500GB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2 PCIe Solid State Drive
  • Seagate 2TB BarraCuda 7200RPM Hard Disk

This was my first ever winging it on a PC Builder site, Lmao.

Other than the GPU, that's already better than a Series X lol. If you just put an RX 9060 XT 16gb in their you'd have above PS5 Pro performance and if you sold your 1660 Super it'd probably only cost you £250 to upgrade to that lol. Then if you installed Bazzite OS on it you'd have a powerful "steam console". OFC that's all mute if you don't want to install an OS, change the GPU yourself or you need game pass support. But you basically have everything you need for a great "steam console" already.

Really? Lmao.

I mean this PC has been working fine for 4 years but I've never actually bothered trying to use it for Gaming, Lol.

I wouldn't swap the OS either way, I'm happy to PC Game with Windows and I'm happy to use a combo of PC Game Pass + Steam.

Is that all I need to do? Replace the GPU? Lol.

In non lay off relayed news, helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox in August.

Reportedly the contraband trailer has been removed from the Xbox YouTube channel today. If true I guess that ones been quietly cancelled.

And they wait until the day after all the lay offs, to announce it.
That seems like a "yeah we know its bad, but hey, look at this flower! isn't it pretty?".
It comes across as a distraction tactic or something.

Proton goes really, really far. If you can't play a game on the Steam Deck, it's more likely to be because the hardware isn't strong enough than being a compatibility problem, unless it's one of those games with bad anticheat yadda yadda.

Whats crazy is that windows is so bloated, that even translating code, with the overhead that brings, can work out better than running on windows sometimes. There are videos of people testing games on SteamOS (linux based) and where they out perform native windows runs.

I've been tempted to try switching out, often enough, but linux just seems too much of a hassle.
If Steam get their OS right, and ease of use.... I'm all there for it.

Modern Linux distros made with ease of use in mind like Linux Mint are really no harder to use than Windows, sometimes even easier. If you use AMD you don't even have to worry about drivers, the kernel already has that sorted out. I've seen people complaining about drivers in Windows PC handhelds, citing them as one big hurdle that stops those handhelds from having a console-like experience even if you can get over the Windows UI, but I never had to think about drivers in my Steam Deck or AMD PC.

Why aren't you ready for a PC?

I built mine 2 years ago now, best gaming decision I have made

  • I prefer the console experience, the ease of use, plug and play with no troubleshooting or adjusting settings.
  • I prefer the console ecosystem/UX.
  • I don't think there's any point in me switching to PC right now when I have an Series X, to play all the same games on PC instead.
  • I know nothing about PC hardware, GPU/CPU, AMD vs Intel, etc.
  • I don't have a clue how much I'd have to spend for a (lets say Series X equivalent) PC.
  • I don't have a clue about building my own PC and Tbh I would just use a PC Builder Site and before PCMR comes in and tells me I'm stupid and it will be more expensive and building my own PC is super easy, etc. Respectfully, I don't care, Lmao.

ROG Xbox Ally will be the most powerful handheld on the market, if Windows OS for Gaming isn't shit by its release then I will get that, I will use it to ease my way further into PC Gaming, I like Handhelds, I love my Switch which I mostly use in Handheld mode, but I still want the big TV screen experience and I want to do that without taking up my current PC.

The rumoured Xbox/PC hybrid will remove most of my "issues" so I might as well wait for that.

My current plan would be...

  • Continue using my Xbox Series X as normal, Game Pass and buying 3rd parties.
  • Buy the ROG Xbox Ally X, that will be when I create a Steam account, I will use it mostly in handheld mode but I might try out docking it too, I will alternate between Game Pass/Play Anywhere titles and Steam for smaller titles + Some Sony titles, if the bigger Sony titles don't look like shit when docked, otherwise I will just probably exclusively play smaller titles on the ROG Xbox Ally X.
  • Buy the Xbox/PC hybrid, I don't care who it comes from, whether Xbox or Asus, I will just buy whatever is the most powerful. If it's just a Windows PC but with the ease of use of a Console and feeling of one then great. From then on I will still use Game Pass but I will likely start buying non-Game Pass titles on Steam instead of Microsoft Store.

I have it all planned out, Lol.

Plus I've got to buy a Switch 2 still and ROG Xbox Ally X this year.

Fair enough.

I feel like the troubleshooting is blown way out of proportion. 99% of games in my experience I just play and adjust graphics settings

This was quite the disappointment when I realized that there are no cross-saves. The only time I used the return policy of Steam, because ESO was kinda pointless if I could not access my character with the Steam version.

It's Sony's IP, Sony's Publishing, Sony is the one who choose when to announce it, Lol.

Xbox didn't have any say?
That's tactless of Playstation then.

I doubt it? Unless there is a marketing agreement in which Microsoft is covering the costs of Helldivers 2 marketing on Xbox but that seems unlikely and even then it isn't a guarantee, Sony for example is likely to have GTA 6's marketing but they didn't get to decide when Take-Two announces GTA 6. Seems very unlikely that Microsoft gets to decide when any game is announced for its platform unless there's an explicit commercial partnership between the two and I'm not sure how Helldivers 2 will drastic from the news anyway.

Yes, there shouldn't really be any games that don't run at least 60fps on an i5-10600k right now. You might want more SSD storage too for installing games on as HDD doesn't cut it for modern games but other than that it's just the GPU. Upgrade that and you'll be outperforming your Series X and have a decent gaming PC.

Even your 1660 Super will already be more powerful than the ROG XBOX Ally X GPU. Hopefully the gaming frontend for windows launches for desktop at the same time as that.

And the "best" thing is, if Microsoft goes forward with only making "Xbox" with Windows from now on, that plays only Windows versions of the games, all the Xbox ESO players will be stranded in the aging console until they implement cross save or just stop supporting the console entirely.

In the worst way possible, I feel like it's guaranteed to come now though, because they don't really have any choice do they? Microsoft has basically shackled them to The Elder Scrolls Online for the next 10 years and they will need to triple down on it to stay alive now, it's The Elder Scrolls Online maintains its popularity for another 10 years or they get shutdown.

And since the next Xbox device is going to be a Windows based device they're surely going to have to bring cross-saves otherwise risk losing all their Xbox player-base, so I think it will come but it doesn't exactly need to come until the next Xbox device maybe in 2-3 years from now. Originally I thought they were going to start winding down on TESO and it would never come, and that was clearly what they were doing, but u'know, Microsoft decided to be dickheads.

They have 2-3 years to figure it out and I think they will because they have no other choice.

This wouldn't have been an issue if they didn't cancel their next MMO, because The Elder Scrolls Online would be in sunset mode in about 2-3 years from now and their next MMO would be about to release which likely would support cross-save/cross-play, etc. The main reason TESO doesn't support cross-save IIRC is because it's old and they didn't really consider it at the time, now it would take a big overhaul to the systems. To be clear, this is going to be expensive, and a technical nightmare, Microsoft has fucked Zenimax over in so many ways by cancelling their next MMO.

They're probably going to have to overhaul multiple major systems in The Elder Scrolls Online now to ensure it lives for another 10 years and for when the Xbox/PC hybrid happens, which they wouldn't have needed to do if they were still releasing their next MMO, because The Elder Scrolls Online would have started winding down anyway, they've totally fucked Zenimax's entire future plans I feel.

Where's the best place to buy GPUs?
