For me it was an awful Matrix movie and lowest (for me) by far. Idc about social commentary or any of that meta garbage. It was just meh film, with poor direction/action and contrived story, that leans way too hard on its previous films. Even the director seem like they didn't care much for the movie.

So in that sense I kinda have to put it to OP, even though I wouldn't call it that bad. This falls in line with a forgettable sequel; which is terrible for a Matrix film.

I liked it. Didn't love it or hate it. Better than the 3rd movie.

You do know mediocre and pile of shit are two different things, right, so which is it?

But I agree, it's a retread of the first movie that pisses all over the lore. When I can point and the screen and tell you exactly what's gonna be said and/or done at pretty much any given moment, not only did you done fucked it up to quote AJ, you're not even trying. I get that they *have* to reuse certain elements from the OT, especially the first film for the sake of this reboot (I mean that both figuratively and literally), but there's a reason people generally don't like shot-for-shot remakes of classic films and this film was barely even trying to be original.

Add to that the convoluted plot (for starters, there's literally zero reason for Smith to be brought back, and that new actor didn't portray Smith at all, so why even call him Smith absent of any logic for "him" to be "back" in the first place? Why not just make him a whole new badass Agent of the new trilogy for Trinity and Neo to fight? That's what he came across as, anyway) that immediately removed all the stakes as soon as the not-really-spoiler happened and shoddy fight choreography, and I'm almost tempted to say I liked Revolutions better... almost.

Sorry, that movie is a piece of shit through and through, my mind didn't change after watching this. Not only did it destroy the lore like this movie did, but it arguably went a step further and insulted our intelligence while doing it. Like, I STILL, to this day, can't wrap my head around: why TF were the machines helping Neo? Weren't they sent to destroy Zion/The Matrix in the first place? And why did they stop attacking and never come back as soon as Smith (or should I say, the Smiths) were wiped out?

I read that one of the reason/s was that Hugo Weaving was supposed to be in it but Lana couldn't work around his schedule so they dropped him.

But yeah I rewatched The Matrix to scrub my eyes of this mess. Thank god they aren't making any more.

Ew. Pass on that. I'm surprised if they will go forward with more films considering how the film completely tanked in the box office. Plus all the mixed reception all round.

More like mixed at best. I see more people hating on the movie, and understandably so seeing how it's a bungled mess that pisses all over the lore.

I already felt like 2 and 3 were unnecessary sequels just to cash in on the original movie. I had 0 expectations this one would be any good, so I can't say it was a disappointment.

Reloaded and Revolutions were both already two cash grab trash films and needless sequels, not surprised to see they made another.

They really shouldn't, the next movie will probably bomb even compared to this. It was the first matrix movie in 20 years so of course it was going to get a lot of attention, but now that it's come out and a lot of people are disappointed in it, if they release another it almost certainly will do worse. I'm absolutley amazed they had a budget of $190 million for this, because it didn't feel like a high-budget film at all.

I had a lot of hope for Resurrections before watching it, now I have zero interest in the franchise being continued.
