Forums - Movies & TV - Whatchu Watchin?

Figured we could use a thread to talk about and share the stuff we watch day to day. Links appreciated so those unfamiliar can get an idea of what you're talking about.

Decided to check out Cartoon Saloon's growing stable of features this weekend and very glad I did. Saw The Secret of Kells way back when but hadn't realized how much they'd grown since. Their dedication to cultural heritage, handcrafted beauty, and new styles with each work set an example for the rest of the industry. Their storytelling continues to improve along the way. Their latest film, Wolfwalkers, might be my favorite.

The main thing I'm excited about is Wandavision.

I never even saw the Karate Kid before the beginning of this year, but my best friend kept insisting so that he could show me Cobra Kai. Finally, I caved and said "Alright, we'll watch it." It was just the first one, I eventually saw the second one on my own, I still haven't seen the third one.

I really enjoyed what I watched and liked Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. I thought Johnny was an asshole and Ali was a bit of a bitch. Then my friend explained how Karate Kid is from Daniel's perspective and that Cobra Kai is from Johnny's perspective and that you see that Johnny's not really a bad guy, they both had their issues and faults.
So, I said, "Ok, let's watch Cobra Kai."

I was hooked from the very first episode. Every time my friend would come over, we'd watch 5 episodes at a time, basically half a season. And every single episode left my on the edge of my seat, wanting more and more! That Season 2 finale.... Jesus Christ, that made my heart stop.
And Season 3... Oh my God, I almost shed a tear at some points.

If I had to rank them in order, I'd go 3>2>1. It just progressively gets better as it goes along.
It's at the point where, now I divide the greatest shows I've ever seen into 2 categories: Animated and live-action.

Animated - Avatar: the Last Airbender (SUPER Hyped for Avatar Studios!!!)
Live-Action - Cobra Kai

It is THAT good.

Snowpiercer and Money Heist for now.

Snowpiercer is a great continuation from the movie. I've never read the book, with nothing to compare, the characters all feel very well done. Next episode should be up tonight, or is it on Mondays, dunno.

Money Heist is refreshing in the way that the characters actually care about human life. You don't really get that in American shows, just another body, collateral damage who cares. I notice that difference a lot between European and American shows.

Curb your Enthusiasm.
The Blacklist.
Seinfeld, again. And always.

If this included movies, there were times where I could easily spam this with a new one every day. Some rare days, two or even three if I was in the mood. Now, however, it's been two fuckingwhole months since the last film I watched, and I really hate it.

But... I want to start watching a short anime, Paranoia Agent (Satoshi Kon), later this week. I hope I can gain some traction after that again, with better conditions.

Apart from this, the last show I watched was Eden (Dominik Moll) and it was... decent. It does well as a portrayal of reality, but there are a couple of subplots that (to me) just feel unnecessary and only serve to water down the main ones. This show has only six parts, but I think they could've summarized it in only three or four and it would've been much better: stronger and straight to the point.

I'm mostly a lurker now.

Just finished Venture Bros. Been re-watchig Raising Hope. My buddy always sung the praises of The Blacklist and I waited years to watch it, hoping it would wrap up before I ever started. It is good and I made it through the first 5 seasons but then pumped the brakes since I was closing in on the current season.
As for current TV: Bob's Burgers, The Rookie, The Goldbergs, Superstore are the only ones I watch week to week.
I also tried to get the Girlfriend interested in Community but she just doesn't watch as much TV as I do, so I only watched a bit of it again.

Love Live! School Idol Project.

Been so long since I last watched an anime. Having some fun with that one.
