A story from the life of an amature monster hunter:

So I’ve now played for a while and reached HR6, I’ve finished all village quest, hub quests and the rampage quests that I have to do up until HR6. I’ve also finished some HR6 quests and considered I was progressing well. During this journey I’ve carted a few times, some times because over ambition, some times because of sloppyness but yeah shit happends but never failed a quest.

In good spirit I start the HR6 hunt for Zingore and I get completley obliterated and fail that quest, TWICE!

It’s like WTF just happened to that monster, from in previous encounters being a bit of a challange (but not the hardest of the minsters) I get completley stomped. The biggest issue is that if I do an tiny misstake I get stuck (as can’t evade or get away) in one of Zingores combos that basically takes my life bar from 100 % to 0 % in one swoop because the â€Âstunâ€Â effect wears off just in time for the next hit.

Man shit just got real and I’m starting to worry about my first high level encounter with Tigrex, that was the monster that I’ve found to be the hardest in lower level hunts.

Can you not just do other Key Quests to make up your total? You don't have to do every one.

Zinogre's always been a bastard, I'm thinking of just bypassing his High Rank form myself as I'm not sure I could handle it.

The voices in my head tell me to do all the non rampage quests :P

You can always do it in multiplayer, you get the checkmark either way so your voices are silenced. I am not at that point just yet, but I probably will do some quests with others just to get the checkmark.

Yeah Zinogre has always been one of my hardest fights. He just moves so strangely. He has one attack where he jumps at you can lands on his back. That always gets me to think he's falling over, so I start to commit to a large attack animation. And then he nails me with it! Fighting a Zinogre is like fighting a drunken Kung Fu Master. Good luck predicting what he'll do next!

Is anyone a little confused about the HR8+ quest where you capture Rajang for a petalace? I did it and unless I just totally forgot I feel like I didn't get an NPC dialogue to get it. It might have been a direct quest reward, but if so I don't know what petalace it is, as I don't see any that look out of place in my inventory.

Similarly confused about the event quest for the unique gesture

Are there any hammer mains out there? How many times do you have to bonk a monster on the head to stun it?

Hear me out ...

BIG Metroid Queen !

I've played every mainline Metroid EXCEPT Metroid 2 (not counting Other M or Prime 2 and 3), so when you proposed this idea I was thinking of just a really big Metroid flying around, maybe with a head somewhat akin to Mother Brain but with a Metroid where the brain should be, and I was like "uhh ..."

But then I look up Metroid Queen and wow ...

This thing really WOULD fit Monster Hunter! I'd hope it has some sort of tag-team gimmick with some baby Metroids, similar to how Seltas Queen from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate used a normal Seltas as a drill for it's head (which funnily enough was in itself a reference to Gurren Lagann) and also as another enemy combatant for the hunter to fight

This is such a great idea that I feel it needs more exposure. I was going to post this idea on the Monster Hunter subreddit, but I didn't want to steal your idea. So maybe you can post it there instead?

Third attempt and I got that damn Zinogre. But it was a really close call :P

What I hate about Zinogre is how relentless he is, like he'll just hit you again and again and again never giving you time to breathe or get some licks of your own in, and his flip attack covers so much ground and hits super hard.

And if you hate him here, don't ever try him on MH 4 or 3 Ultimate, believe it or not they actually toned him down for Rise.

Yeah, thought it was messed up too. The Advanced quest in the Village is similar since nobody says s*** after you come back. For the Petalace, just open your box, go to Manage Equipment and it's gonna be there.

OK, a quick summary of my feelings of monsters (didn't got to the elder dragons in the update yet):

my most liked monster: Arzuros (as always, I love that guy)
most elegant monster: Mizutsune
ugly, ugly: Khezu
most frustrating monster: Basarios
most terrifying monster: Zinogre
most epic monster: Magnamalo (that music alone)
most difficult monster: Zinogre
most respectable beard: Almudron

What are your feelings?

EDIT:

most terrifying sound: Rathalos drawing a deep breath
