Forums - Movies & TV - Netflix Loses Millions of Subscriptions Over Controversial Film, "Cuties" For Sexploiting Children

If only people weren't so obsessed with sex. I can look at an 11 year old girl's chest and not have sexual thoughts about it, it's really not that hard. I haven't seen the movie but I can only assume that it's another case of adults being obsessed with sex and not realizing that children are asexual. Like when you send 10 year olds into a strip club. There is nothing wrong with that because they don't care either way. It's certain adults that should be shielded from sex, not children.

How are children asexual? Innocent perhaps and non the wiser. However for us that were more mentally mature, at a very early age in primary school I was hitting on girls at school trying to get them to go out with me. I guess it may depend on the country you grow up in on how progressive this topic is. Hell we even had sex ed classes in grade 4 to tell us about the birds and the bees.

Haven't seen the film, but Im guessing most of the outrage comes form US - Europe is much more comfortable with artistic forms, and this coming from France doesn't surprise me much (Blue is the Warmest Color got Palme D'Or in 2013 with what amounts to lengthy softcore finale).

So is their any evidence that millions of people have cancelled netflix?
If not then why have a lie in the thread title?

haha wow never heard of this movie but after doing some "research", yeah the sex scenes are pretty long, explicit and definitely what you would call softcore.

For comparison. That movie is rated NC-17 in the US (highest rating), while in France it got a 12 rating.

To me the weirdest thing about this is the realisation that people actually think twerking is sexy. Like... WTF?

I've always thought it was one of the stupid things that weirdos do. I mean shouldn't the default response to that be "WTF are you doing, weirdo?" rather than "wow, that's sexy"?

Truer words haven’t been spoken. Though, I’m not an a**-man, maybe it’s different if you are.

Sounds like a typical French movie.

But honestly there are much "worse" movies out there in this regard.
In the 1978 movie Pretty Baby, there are scenes with a nude 12-year old Brooke Shields who plays a prostitute.
Just to name a popular actress.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure that Brooke Shields has specifically spoken out against how she was exploited by adults when she was a kid. Playboy took nude photos of her in a bathtub when she was 10, then she appeared nude at the age of 12 in Pretty Baby, then she had nude sex scenes at 16 in the movie Blue Lagoon. All highly controversial stuff back then that was technically allowed by law. Here we are, 40 years later, and children are still being sexually exploited in Hollywood. I think it's about high time that people finally make a stand against this, if Cuties is the straw that finally breaks the camel's back then so be it. It should not be ok for Hollywood and other film makers to skirt child pornography laws the way they do, claiming it is artistic expression.

Hollywood had nothing to do with with it the movie is French.  Also l hate to burst your bubble but nudity isn't a big deal in Europe it really never was there are paintings that feature nude bodies since ancient times.

this really could not happen at a better time. The new season of south park starts sometime this month. This has to be their opening.

Didn't they already cover this like in the first season? The episode there the enraged parents fling themself against the TV station to protest against Terrence&Philipp. These days the TV-station get's replaced with Netflix and flinging people with a social media shit storm, but the basic premise stays the same, don't you think?

But I think that is ignored, because outrage on social media is more important.

I'm usually trying to stay away from political discussions on this site, but... That interview is one of the worst parts of this whole affair. This woman knowingly exploited young children and made them twerk on camera, directing a film with close-up shots of underage girl's crotches and there is even a scene in the movie where the 11 year old main character takes a nude p*ssy shot with a phone camera and posts that on social media so an adult guy will get into trouble. And yet the director says she is fighting for women's rights!! You can literally direct a softcore porn movie about 11 year old girls these days, you just have to claim "it's for women's rights"!

Imagine it was not a pretty young woman directing the movie but an overweight 50 year old guy. Would you still think the same and applaud this? Hint: Women can be pedophiles, too.

I'm sorry, but letting an 11 year old girl perform sexual dances on camera is NOT fighting for women's rights! It's exploitation of underage girls. It's the most regressive, anti-woman movie we've had in a long time.

Note that I said "Hollywood and other filmmakers", I know Cuties or Mignonnes is French. Simply put the girls in this movie were sexually exploited for profit, both by the original filmmakers and by Netflix, there is no getting around that.

I'm also well aware that nudity is less of a big deal in Europe than it is in the US, but perhaps it should be a bigger deal, if Europe's apathy towards nudity is allowing children to be sexually exploited for profit. Somebody mentioned another movie above, Blue is Warmest Color, saying that it got a 12 rating in France. The sex scenes in that movie are straight up pornography, just without any genitalia shown (breasts, butts, various sex acts from cunnilingus to fingering are shown though), how is that ok for a 12 year old to watch? I think perhaps France is a bit too lax with their ratings.

It's only fair. The US rates violence in movies actually very low compared to europe. In the US sexuality is a bad thing, but violence isn't apparently.
