I know, I'm just confused why it seems a lot of folks thought Wii U sold worse.

The Wii U's failure is a lot more recent in people's minds than the Dreamcast, which died 20 years ago.

That's what I figured too, but even though it was 20 years back, Dreamcast's failure is legendary as a tragic chapter in gaming history. I guess people forgot just how poorly it sold.

Around the Network

Wii U and a Vita, I still own both of them.

Wii U. Still hooked up to my TV. No regrets.

Switch Code: SW-7377-9189-3397 -- Nintendo Network ID: theRepublic -- Steam ID: theRepublic

Now Playing
Switch - Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
3DS - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (Trilogy) (2005/2014)
Mobile - Yugioh Duel Links (2017)
Mobile - Super Mario Run (2017)
PC - Borderlands 2 (2012)
PC - Deep Rock Galactic (2020)

After the Neo Geo, next lowest I have is the Turbografx-16, (well, it's my brother's technically, but we share a flat and all our consoles) then Dreamcast.

We're collectors.

Other: Tiger's Game.com handheld. <300,000 units sold

It was fun, for a time.

If Tiger stuff count I also have an American Football handheld of them xD

Well it was a dedicated handheld device, with different games cartridges just like the game boy, problem was seriously limited game catalog. I still remember entering the Electronic Boutique store and buying Duke Nukem and Jurassic Park for it.

The intriguing part is that it supported a dial up modem, a browser and email features. For a device from 1999, it was something.

Can see why the Lynx could leave salty image of handhelds.  You never got Gameboy?  Tetris was God back in the 80s.  Then there was a thing called the DS.  Still waiting for switch I can put in my pocket.

I actually rather liked the Lynx, but I always disliked handheld gaming in general, which is why I never bought another. I don't use my Switch in handheld mode either. Playing on small screens with poor sound and with small controllers or buttons and sticks just isn't my thing.

That's understandable.  I don't mind it myself but I can see why others would just prefer home consoles.

Well, for me it is that I hadn't entered console gaming back then (still played on PC). But with the Dreamcast it was close. A friend had a Dreamcast and it was the first console I experienced. I certainly considered getting one myself - but then Sega discontinued it, so I decided not to. I kinda regret it these days. Dreamcast had cool games and enough of them to justify owning the console. But for me it was the additional hurdle to jump into console gaming in the first place. Years later the Wii got me finally into it.

The Atari Lynx (around 3m according to Wikipedia).

Oops, just realized that the Turbo Express portable sold less than Lynx (1.5m), so that's the lowest for me.

Dreamcast. It was an underrated console that died an early death due to the hype for the PS2.

Mostly due to very poor marketing, most did not even know it existed.
