That is one thing I've always said about Nintendo, they are a knock-out puncher (or home run hitter), that is to say no matter how out of shape or old they appear, they still have knock-out power with a punch that they can connect with (or hit a home run with). They always have that ability to create a new craze.

That is true, they're the only one that can do that with old franchises with no risk involved.

Lol. Just by reading the title I knew this was made by a Nintendo fan. Because you have to think Nintendo is head and shoulders above MS and Sony as a company that is capable of making hit video games, or creating games, game series or game characters that have the same impact that Nintendo characters have. Which is of course, total horseshit.

How about this poll: Are Sony and MS capable of making a home console that sells as poorly as the Wii U?

Quit with the flame bait.

Soooooo, make an example instead of beeing so salty  if you are confident in what you say (?) The only comment I've seen so far that feels lit is yours...

An example? An IP that Sony or MS ever creates could catch on like this depending on how its used, the games its put in, how it catches on etc. There are so many variables (some of which involve luck) it's not even funny. Explain why Flappy Bird caught on. Explain why Angry Birds caught on over the games it copied. Sometimes its literally a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

You're essentially asking me how to make any IP a pop culture phenomenon. Well if there was a step-by-step guide then everyone would be doing it, wouldn't they? Then again, I don't pretend to be some kind of marketing genius. But what I do know is this: Sony and MS are more than capable of putting the right people in the right place to create a smash hit of an IP. Being that there's so many variables involved how can anyone possibly say they can't?

Will Sony or MS ever releases a game on mobile that catches on like Pokemon Go? I have no idea. Are the capable of doing so? 100%, and anyone who says otherwise is seeing the world through a very Nintendo-favored perspective.

At least Sony tried it xD

I admire that moxie, takes a lot of balls to brag about something as irrelevant as Invizimals.

With their current Ips? Not even remotely close.

Don't be ignorant. Do your research.

Yeah I've seen those numbers, it struggled to break even. Is 300k worldwide an achievement for a movie based on a brand that they used to think would be bigger than Mickey Mouse and Mario? Really?

It didn't struggle to break even its production budget was only $73 million dollars and it made $341 million dollars world wide.  Plus I'm sure it made a good chunck of money from cross promotions and merchandising also.

And that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread, but good work looking salty.

If Zynga, Rovio and King can do it then I'm sure Sony or Microsoft could.

Do they have any current IP's that lend themselves as well to becoming a cultural phenomenon on mobile like Nintendo do? No, but that's not what the thread title is asking.

Yeah, anyone saying "no, no, only Nintendo can" needs to stop and at least try to be objective.  Many of the biggest games of the last decade have come out of absolutely nowhere.

Also, Microsoft obliterates anything Nintendo will ever do with Windows.  Sony had the PS2, which came to define video game consoles in the west.

Honestly while I agree with you, I still think it is very hard for Sony and Microsoft to replicate the success of Pokemon Go in terms of gaming IP just like that either (which is what some people). The app store is really the wild west.

Nope. None of their franchises is compatible with the mass market.

I can't say no that they can't. It would not be as easy as it was with pokemon GO due to the worldwide brand recognition of Pokemon but it is indeed possible if you ask me.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

the answer is probably not in the same way, though i can't begin to grasp what the hell is so enticing about pokemon itself. i absolutely despise that entire franchise (games and anime), but i guess there's a huge crowd that feels differently. more power to them, hope they keep enjoying

its hardly complicated why people like Pokemon, its a game about capturing wild animals that have special abilities and are cute and cool looking, battling with other people, fighting in tournaments. I think you're deliberately pretending to not understand why people like it rather than exploring why YOU don't like it

none of that is compelling to me. I find that entire franchise childish, mindless and absolutely boring. And yes I did try playing a bit of the old games as well as watch a couple of episodes of the anime just to understand why it was so popular.

if people like it, good, more power to them. it just has 0 appeal to me personally.

it was most probably targeting kids younger than me when it came out, so there might be a nostalgia factor to it that just eludes me completely.
