Are Sony or MS capable of creating a cultural phenomenon like Pokemon Go?

Yeah, anyone saying "no, no, only Nintendo can" needs to stop and at least try to be objective.  Many of the biggest games of the last decade have come out of absolutely nowhere.

Also, Microsoft obliterates anything Nintendo will ever do with Windows.  Sony had the PS2, which came to define video game consoles in the west.

Honestly while I agree with you, I still think it is very hard for Sony and Microsoft to replicate the success of Pokemon Go in terms of gaming IP just like that either (which is what some people). The app store is really the wild west.
