Agreed. Don't want them shifting to mobile, something Nintendo may do if the NX tanks.  And while Sony may not be doing it with SW, they are constantly doing it with HW.  You had the Walkman back in the day, a huge phenomenon, and more recently the PS brand, which has become synonymous with gaming in a lot of countries.

Ditto, maybe these posters are too young to remember the Sony Walkman or they happen to be the ~5% of people who don't use a Microsoft operating system.

Or they are reading it in the context of the forum and OP and only looking at the current gaming IPs of both companies.

With their current Ips? Not even remotely close.

Yeah I've seen those numbers, it struggled to break even. Is 300k worldwide an achievement for a movie based on a brand that they used to think would be bigger than Mickey Mouse and Mario? Really?

Over $340 Million worldwide for a movie based on a videogame is fantastic, especially on a budget of ~$70 Million. Pre-Warcraft (which was a failure) it was the highest grossing movie based on a videogame.

You chose a poor example.

At least Sony tried it xD

You have to remember that Microsoft has Minecraft, which is as strong as it's ever been and growing stronger all the time. It's the only IP that either Sony or MS holds that has any chance of doing something similar to Pokémon.

They just need to hit the right notes.

They said the same thing about Angry Birds, did you go see their movie? Yeah, nobody did.

The Angry Birds movie actually did pretty good at the box office considering it was a sub par movie overall.  So far it still made more money overseas then Finding Dory did.  Also its still Sony/Columbia biggest hit so far this year and since I'm hoping that Ghostbusters will bomb it will be their biggest hit of the year since they really have nothing else worth metioning the rest of the year.

That is one thing I've always said about Nintendo, they are a knock-out puncher (or home run hitter), that is to say no matter how out of shape or old they appear, they still have knock-out power with a punch that they can connect with (or hit a home run with). They always have that ability to create a new craze.

If Zynga, Rovio and King can do it then I'm sure Sony or Microsoft could.

Do they have any current IP's that lend themselves as well to becoming a cultural phenomenon on mobile like Nintendo do? No, but that's not what the thread title is asking.

Yeah, anyone saying "no, no, only Nintendo can" needs to stop and at least try to be objective.  Many of the biggest games of the last decade have come out of absolutely nowhere.

Also, Microsoft obliterates anything Nintendo will ever do with Windows.  Sony had the PS2, which came to define video game consoles in the west.

Most people that are playing Pokemon Go are NOT pokemon fans, it's just a mobile game that is social, that it, it will be dead in a month, is Nintendo capable of creating a service like PS+ and make more money just with that than the whole of Sony? like they are doing more money with PS+ than the whole of Nintendo?

right, if all of the people playing Pokemon GO are casuals then explain why the Pokemon games are some of the best selling every gen and almost always seem to hit 10 million (even both versions of very similar games)?

Sony isn't doing more with PS+ than the whole of Nintendo, and you should watch your words before you further jinx Sony, their video game division is doing better but the company isn't out of debt and their other company sections haven't magically started to do amazingly
