One day I'll know that video games are better than spending time with my girlfriend? Wow, you are far gone. I reduce it down to 4 months now.

WHy why why is there only like... 4 or 5 people here who even REALLY read what was ACTUALLY being said? Jigokutamago's quote explains exactly what was meant, but people keep trying to ignore that point. You didn't even really NEED his quote to realize it either. It's all in the OP as well.
FIRST POINT: that’s in direct contrast with what it is we’re trying to achieve with Wii U," (Specifically states Wii U. Not Nintendo as a whole. There's a reason for that)
SECOND POINT: Nintendo is interested in virtual reality technology, he says, and "always looking at hardware and assessing what’s possible." (RIGHT HERE it says Nintendo IS Interested in VR, but you can see that from the quote they are saying that with current hardware, it wont work)
THIRD POINT: But the current opinion within the company is that the technology is better suited for arcades than the living room, he says. (NOTE the word "BETTER SUITED." There's a reason behind that. Actually THINK about why they said that).
So really, everything you needed to know was already in the OP on how to interpret this information that Nintendo isn't saying VR is stupid and we never have done it before. It's CLEAR that they're saying "we're interested, but it's not for the Wii U and the technology currently isn't up to the point where it would offer an experience you can share with others."
It's not "out of touch" at all to say that. It's simply stating the fact that current technology isn't good enough for VR to be worth it.

Unless everybody can see what the player sees, VR will be restricted to single player games with online multiplayer at most, which is the oposite of what Nintendo is trying to do right now. Now, once technology allows consoles/PCs to drive more than one pair of glasses at the same time, then things will be different. |
Project Morpheus says hi!

Out of all the gamers in the world what percent usually sit in front of the TV or monitor on their own? I would say a lot.
Handheld gaming is a solo art.
Most people already play by themselves anyway. VR is just an extension of that.
As far as Miyamoto is concerned processing power don't matter in a console either.
Sounds like Balmer on the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Wii remote ....
| ikki5 said: VR is going to be a niche thing. It will never sell big, you may get that one spike here and there but then it'll be over.
lol, that's just sad, you'd rather play a video game than hangout with your girlfriend while she's in a bikini... I'm going to give that relationship no more than 6 months. |
My thoughts exactly. She's going to be getting sexed up by some big buff Caribbean guy while everyone is wondering why her sunburned boyfriend is spazzing out in the sand with a helmet on his head.
Sounds perfect. That's already what I do, minus the goggles.

Thanks for unruining my faith in humanity.

I honestly think it's a fad either way. The hype has already died down immensly since they were announced. The cost is still too high and there isn't going to be enough support I don't think. Sony will have to make a huge push for it to make developers/publishers support it and I'm not sure they really have the funds to do so espeically since they are already having such an issue supporting the Vita. The Oculus on the other hand I think will have more support, but I think with Facebook being in control, it's hard to say if the support will be of decent quality and not just a bunch of adds.
Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
