I personally don't see much potential in VR as opposed to AR, but I find it absolutely hilarious that people are citing the Virtual Boy as reason to not do it. Translation: Nintendo isn't doing it, so I'm not interested.
Nintendo's input on VR is clearly outdated.

I think Miyamoto is talking about how VR is so far, and not what it could be at its best.

Also, the Virtual boy is not very relevant to Miyamoto's opinions, as it was a product Gunpei Yokoi and his team was ordered to create by Yamauchi & Co. at the time.

Yes and he also says:

"We’ve been doing our own experiments with virtual reality dating back to the Virtual Boy"

"We at Nintendo are interested in VR technology and what it can do"

"So from Nintendo’s perspective, there’s interest in the technology"

He actully says "we know everything about the technology" and "we are ready"

Yep. He is basically claiming we could see something releated in a future.

VR tech is so old and still overpriced.  Sony, Facebook and Microsoft are out of touch thinking VR will have mass market appeal.  Case in point... Virtual Boy

That's like saying the Wiimote will fail because of the Power Glove. Technology has evolved in the last 20 years. 

It is still too damn expensive for mainstream.
