What do the PS3, PSP Go and Vita have in common? Answer: |
DS, Wii, and 3DS were all in the lead right out the gate. They sold much faster at launch than their competitors.
This is a simple thing to determine. Nintendo will continue to support the Wii U for a few more years, until 2017-2018 at the absolute latest. Sony and Microsoft will still be supporting their consoles past 2020. They will outlast the Wii U no matter what it does in its lifetime.

The WiiU is going to be in last place forever and there is no way around!

E3 2011, when Nintendo announced that they will defy pretty much everything that the Wii was. Then E3 2012 cemented it, because it showed that Nintendo's "we are going to rely on third parties" strategy would backfire hard. The only glimmer of hope that Nintendo wouldn't finish in third place was the Xbox One reveal, because it looked like Microsoft was even more determined to self-destruct. |
first of all, i would like to thank you for actually explaining in detail at what point you thought that took place. out of the five or six people who tried to answer that question, you and one other user bothered to actually give any sort of explanation.
i believe if they had made changes to how they advertised the wii u post e3 2012, things could be very much different right now. lets be realistic here, as it stands, the wii u has the best games out of the three. that is a huge advantage, and that doesnt seem to be something that is going to change any time soon. if they could have shown people why they need a wii u, why they want a wii u, there is no reason why it shouldnt be millions ahead of ps4 right now. sony's success with ps4 right now rests with how they have communicated with the public, and i believe that if nintendo were more aggressive with their marketing as sony has been, there is no reason that right now they could have been a very dominant force.
FYI According to Iwata the Wii U IS NOT being sold at a profit now- I see that written in the game media and on forums but I have not seen it better documented than in Iwata s investor Q & A
Only the Wii U consoles currently in Nintendo s inventory will be sold at a profit due to the losses they took on them were written down in the last fiscal year - any new consoles manufactured will be made and sold at a loss.

The Wii U has eDRAM and the PS4 has GDDR5.
GDDR5 = 176GB a second
eDRAM = 1TB or 1000GB a second
The Wii U just might outshine the other consoles. I know you don't know what I'm talking, but you can look it up.

Not everything has to do 1080p & 60fps when they are pushing other areas.
Wii U games that are 1080p, 60fps are very low tech. Mario Kart 8 is 720p, no anti-aliasing, with effects reminiscent of what the 6th gen Xbox could do.

I know you don't know what you're talking about. Wii U doesn't have the fill rate to make use of 1000GB/second, or even close to it.
How much bandwidth do you think it takes to render MK8's screen? 720p * 60fps * 8BPP * no Anti-aliasing, 1280 * 720 * 60 * 8 = 421MB/s per-pass, 0.41GB/second per pass. It doesn't take much bandwidth to draw MK8, and MK8 must have been fillrate bound otherwise they would do 1080p or turn on some MSAA at least.

Certainly, if Nintendo had been able to communicate why people should want their new console, then they would be millions ahead of the PS4 at this point. But this goes back to the root cause which is the Wii U itself. By making a console like the Wii U, Nintendo communicated all the reasons why people should not want a new Nintendo console. Like I said, the Wii U defied pretty much everything the Wii stood for. Where the Wii prioritized accessibility and inclusivity with the design of the Wii Remote, the Wii U went for the opposite with the Gamepad that was dubbed as the swiss army knife of video game controllers, topped off with a speech about how important the hardcore gamer is. Where the Wii prioritized unique games, the Wii U's message was that it's going to have the same games as everyone else. Where the Wii tried to reach a broader audience with new IPs like Wii Sports, the Wii U relied on sequels. People liked the Wii. You take a glance at the Wii Remote and the Wii U Gamepad, and can instantly tell that the Gamepad is not an evolution of the thing that people liked. The Wii U gets written off as a system that people aren't interested in. Nintendo puts out great games, but that doesn't matter at that point anymore, because people don't want to use the Gamepad. |
i guess you dont agree, but i feel like the gamepad is an incredible advancement in gaming. have you not spent much time thinking about how much better gamees could be, or what new kinds of games that could be created? and just because nintendo created a console like the wii u doesnt mean it has to rely on sequels. wii u is the ONLY console that is capable of making unique games. the fact that the wii u is the console that they created doesnt seal their fate in the slightest. it seems more like nintendo has no idea what to do with the damn thing, which is very odd to me. it seems obvious how to make this console seem desirable in the eyes of the consumer.

Are you suggesting that Nintendo will support the Wii U longer than Sony and Microsoft will support their respective platforms?
I mean, it only sounds like you're suggesting that the Wii U is six times more powerful than the PS4, but I don't see how that is related to my claim that Nintendo will drop support for the system in 3-4 years.

Huh?
