the fact that ps3 and 360 are out doing the Wii in console sales aswell as major game releases is solid proof the Wii was a looser last gen

But the biggest winner financially. Its no looser.

And why should we give a shit ? honestly why.  Why should i care if some corp loses or makes $, as long as i get the best product at the lowest price.

Because the companies will stop doing stuff, that doesn't bring them profit in the long term. I agree as gamers itis second priority.

But this was also about winning, and for that profit is relevant. Skeeuk was applying another measure than usual for "winning" (and subjective too, what is major) and Puggsly added just another view on what defines winning.

Surprised by Tomb Raider Definitive Edition sales. Guess people are willing to spend $60 on slight upgrade of last gen game.

Maybe they didn't get it last gen. But yes they should just get the cheaper last gen version if they still have their PS3.

Don't copy random editorials.

PS4 doing awesome, the WiiU at least is doing alright, I wouldn't call it doomed yet with the games coming this month and next month there might be a nice boost for the WiiU. If only they would drop the price of the console to 250 then I think it would really pickup in sales.

Tomb Raider: DE is selling like old "updated" ports did on Wii U. I wonder if 3rd parties will cancel future projects or delay them?

Err...

Batman Arkham City is the best selling updated WiiU port I can find in the DB.  It sold 33k globally first week.  Tomb Raider sold 60k in the USA, first week (or you can divide them by platform, if you prefer).  We know that it got another 27k (or you can divide them by platform, if you prefer) from the UK alone.  I don't really see how that's selling like old "updated" ports did on WiiU.

Yes, I see no reason why you would combine platforms, so you should divide.  There were several Wii U late ports that did very similar to Tomb Raider.  They did a little better than TR on One, worse than PS4 but in the same ballpark.

My comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek, but the point is real: Old ports of PS360 games aren't going to sell well.  3rd parties blamed Wii U for it, but really the result is not unique to that system.

Okay.

I imagine most Wii U users bought Arkham City because they probably never had a chance of playing the game in the Wii aside from the graphical differences, right?

While most next-gen users who bought TR:DE probably wanted to play it solely for the graphical differences. The incentive of buying a game you already played is too small for the next-gen console owners that I'm astounded the PS4 version even sold better than Wii U's best selling ported PS360 game during its first 3weeks in 2 countries alone.

You're confused, because you're thinking of things in "brand loyalty" terms, which might be you, but is not the general consumer.  I picked up a Wii U, but my last system was a 360.  I played AA on 360 and loved it, but didn't bother picking it up until years after its release.  So I still hadn't played AC when it came out for you and thus I picked it up for that system since I wanted to see the Gamepad features and bonus content, and I like using the Wii U better than my 360.

That is who you are generally selling old ports to - the people who didn't bother picking up the title on its original release.  I doubt very few of the PS4/One buyers were people who had already played through it last year.  It was people who hadn't bought it but thought about it, and decided to pick up the best version when it came out.  Although I'm sure there are some extra-hardcore fans with who would buy a game twice in one year.

I seriously believe that Microsoft are in trouble this generation, and not just because of the low sales numbers. After their initial, disastrous reveal, they lost A LOT of good-will with gamers - at least those who engage with their brains and remain impartial to the companies that make our consoles of choice - whilst Sony has swept in to become the shining knight. Now Microsoft are left with an extremely difficult decision to make, do they:

A. Lower the price of their console, thus not only losing money but annoying a lot of users who initially paid the original price, revealing themselves as liars when they said they believe firmly that Kinect adds that extra $100 of value, whilst still failing to appease those who do not want/like Kinect. People may/will still wonder why they are paying for a peripheral they do not want.

B. Remove Kinect from the box, make themselves look ridiculous in the process, seriously annoy current users who have already purchased the console with Kinect, reveal themselves as liars when they said they firmly believe in Kinect, and completely abandon their original vision that said Kinect was integral to the console. Of course, this would also leave them with a console that is inferior/less powerful to their competitors as they would be removing the only U.S.P. they had, a U.S.P. that they have touted heavily.

I really do not envy Microsoft their position right now. They have placed themselves in a ridiculously difficult situation, and one I do not believe they can win.

Its fine they just drop the price and unveil the Ambassador program.

At the end of the day, what difference does it make WHY more people are subscribing to PS+?

I was clarifying to someone that believes free games were bringing in subscribers.

Surely it brings some, but a majority just wanna play games online.

You may disagree with me.  But I have the sensation Sony used the "free games" as a way to make the transition from free to paid online less impactful.

From my point of view, it worked.

Definitely. If they just out of nowhere said "sorry bros, you gotta pay now" when their precedent for the previous 2 gens was free online, people would boycott. I know I wouldn't have PS+ right now if multiplayer wasn't behind a paywall, but getting free games tempers whatever upset feelings I had about it. I got PS+ a little over 2 weeks ago and I've already got DmC, BioShock Infinite, Shadow of the Colossus HD, Metro: Last Light, Resogun, and Outlast. And apparently Payday 2 is about to come to the IGC as well. Can't really bitch about $50 (cheaper than XBL, btw) when I've gotten all that in the first 2 weeks.

It's time for MS to release on the "underdog" european countries. The big ones don't want the machine,MS need to move on!

That's the thing tho, the regions where the X1 hasn't launched yet are places that Microsoft pretty much deemed to be unwinnable anyway where as both Sony and Ms have their big apology launch in Japan to happen still but I think the Japanese market will appreciate and understand the agressive launch Sony had by launching in their rivals strongest region first.

Ps Vita continues to struggle....
Ok, the Slim Vita is coming to America, but with the same cost as the regular one? And no memory card? Heck.... I don´t think even God of War will be enough to make it sell.

Europe don´t care about WiiU and XboxOne anymore. It´s all about PS4 and 3ds there

Comes with 1gig built in, its for those that want to buy physical games rather than downloads

That 1 gig is kinda dodgy tho... you can't use it as addon memory with say an 8gb card or so. If you put a normal memory card in the system you lose access to the built in 1gb. It's just there to allow you play games out of the box and not much more, 1gb in terms of Vita games btw wouldn't cover the patch data for say PSASBR or LBPV.

It's literally just a tiny bit of memory to get you from your first game back to the store to buy a proper card.

maybe those people didn't play it last gen...like me. Granted, I'm not going to buy it, just rent it.

It was more the $60 than making it.  I mean, even if you did pass on it on last gen, you can buy it on that for $20 now.  If Definitive was $30 or even $40 I could understand, just seems steep price for what it offers comparatively.
