If you have a short attention span read the above, my feelings are pretty much the same.
I think this topic is destined to follow in the footsteps of threads that ask if the WiiU has games with graphics that couldn't be done on the 360/PS3. Someone says no. Someone else says yes and gives an example. The first person argues that it could be done, with compromises. They second argues that that means the opening premise is correct. (and then someone posts a picture of Red Dead Redemption...)
Is there a game on the WiiU that, due to Gamepad functionality, couldn't possibly be done on other consoles , no. Are there many good features that are facilitated by the Gamepad that can't be replicated without compromises, yes.
Off-screen play with a SINGLE system. Playing Youtube vids on the TV while continuing to browse. Local multiplayer, without split screen. 5 player local multiplayer. Some of the assymetric aspects of Nintendoland, although not complete games, show promise. Murphy co-op in Rayman. Gadget use in Batman and Splinter Cell is quite neat. The Art Academy Community on Miiverse, wow! The 'go-here' functionality in Pikmin 3 which is integral to maximising your multi-tasking capabilities. Zombie U. Webcam functionality and others that I am sure I am forgetting.
Nintendo may have oversold the assymetric gameplay angle but there is plenty that the Wii Gamepad has done and plenty more that it can yet do.
p.s. I realise some of the above could be achieved with Vita + PS3/4, which is great if you already have or are planning to buy a Vita, but otherwise it just boils down to Sony trying to convince everybody else (me included) that they need two consoles for a 'complete' gameplay experience.
