Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should buy Take-Two

Nintendo should just buy EA instead and be done with it.

Seriously though, I agree Nintendo could do something drastic with their money, but Take Two would be a big investment hard to make back, probably better to get something smaller.

I think Take Two is worth it's value. Of course, I don't think NIntendo is going to do this mind you, but EA alrady tried and came fairly close. And yes, Nintendo could easily afford it. They have $5 billion in cash alone.

it's not only the price they would have to pay, the studios would have to release their games on a console with only a very small userbase. gta only for wii u? that would be a financial disaster. not to forget that they would have to start making those games for wii u first and would have to discard the games they worked on for ps360 or nextbox and ps4.

it would costs nintendo billions and not only what they have to pay for the stakes.

if it would be that easy, microsoft would have bought some huge studios long time ago and would never have a problem with enough exclusives anymore.

It would be more cost efficient for Nintendo to pay Take Two to develop a game for the Wii U. Surely the game would sell well, and Take Two would make plenty of more games for the Wii U for free.

Nintendo will never do anything like this. It would be a huge chunk of their warchest, for a company that would be limited to one platform.

They won't even start their own studios to make games like NBA 2K or Bio Shock or GTA, even though they've had the resources for many years and that would be far more cost efficient.

Nintendo is a family brand too, they are not interested in being too closely alligned with things like Grand Theft Auto either IMO. They'll accept it as a third party title sure, but getting closer than that is probably a no-go in their book.

Take Two is worth more than Nintendo would be willing to pay. Monolith was more in Nintendos league.

The problem with take two is that the vast majority of its sales are on hd consoles. If nintendo buys it, the ips immediately lose a huge amount of value as they will sell much less exclusively on a nintendo console. Yes grand theft auto might convince a lot of fans to buy a wii u but there is no doubt that sales will be massively down. And why would sports fans transition to the wii u when they can just play the EA alternatives on more powerful consoles. Take Two's value comes from the fact that it is multiplatform. If it is bought and made into a first party studio it will immediately lose a ton of its value and be a bad purchase.

Exactly. Same goes for Bayonetta.

No, they should strenghten their relationship with smaller studios that have a lot of talent (what they do very well in Japan), they should make contracts with studios like Double Fine and Obsidian .

IP's changing platform or going multiplatform have a very well doncumented history of bringing fans with them.  See FF7, FFXIII&GTA, MH4, etc.  GTA6 exclusivity would be a major factor for next gen console purchases.

Having an EA alternative could influence potential buyers who feel that a lack of sports titles are a detriment.  If the titles were superior or more fresh than the status quo, it may even be a selling point.

You make the assumption that consumers will always choose the more powerful console option, which history shows is almost never the case.
