Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo should buy Take-Two

it's not only the price they would have to pay, the studios would have to release their games on a console with only a very small userbase. gta only for wii u? that would be a financial disaster. not to forget that they would have to start making those games for wii u first and would have to discard the games they worked on for ps360 or nextbox and ps4.

it would costs nintendo billions and not only what they have to pay for the stakes.

if it would be that easy, microsoft would have bought some huge studios long time ago and would never have a problem with enough exclusives anymore.

Actually, MS has been in talks to buy Activision several times.  The thing is, the cost isn't worth it for Sony or MS, since they are getting full 3rd party support.  For Nintendo, buying up developers may be their only option to have proper software support.  In and of itself it's not a great move, but in the larger picture for moving systems, it might be.

A franchise like GTA would probably lose a lot of its fanbase if it became unavailable on the Playstation/XBox though.

Resident Evil was quickly switched back to being multi-plat once Capcom saw that the GameCube wasn't giving them the sales they wanted for instance. I don't think the situation would be all that dissimilar for GTA.

I don't think Nintendo wants any part of marketing/selling a game like GTA themselves either. Far too controversial.

They should focus on fostering smaller studios but ones with potential.

They did it with Rare and turned them big,

Retro's pretty respected now too.

No one knew who the hell Monolith were until they made Xenoblade.

Less buying upright, more opening studios, helping lead developers open studios. (Micheal Ancel if he leaves Ubisoft. Rayman.)

Actually now that I think about it, Nintendo did this with a LOT of Square's former employees. Even the AlphaDream dudes are former Squaresoft. If I'm not mistaken Brownie Brown too.

Any company tied with Blizzard is no longer financially on the table.

Not true. Xenosaga was when Monolith was one of the top JRPGs and I enjoyed it on my PS2. Problem is not too many people knew about it and its even worse off today.

The type of "mature IP" that would be ideal for Nintendo would be something more like Uncharted or the James Bond IP.

Something that appeals to hardcore players (namely 14-35 year old males) without being wildly out of sync with Nintendo's reputation as a family company.

Grand Theft Auto is too ridiculously violent, it's just not a good fit with Nintendo's other franchises.

Mature games are aimed at 17+.

I don't think Nintendo could afford Take-Two. At the very least they are probably worth over 1 billion dollars

EA was seriously considering buying Take Two back in 2008. They are within reach of a buyout by the biggest players of the industry.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
