IP's changing platform or going multiplatform have a very well doncumented history of bringing fans with them. See FF7, FFXIII>A, MH4, etc. GTA6 exclusivity would be a major factor for next gen console purchases.
Having an EA alternative could influence potential buyers who feel that a lack of sports titles are a detriment. If the titles were superior or more fresh than the status quo, it may even be a selling point.
You make the assumption that consumers will always choose the more powerful console option, which history shows is almost never the case.
