At another thought: which games are released or announced, that use UE4? I assume Watchdogs don't use it, as it comes to all consoles and I don't think Ubisoft already ported the engine on their own. So which games actually use the engine?

Only ones I can think of are Fortnite and Daylight.

So, currently UE4 missing WiiU is a non-issue. And we don't know how the situation will be in a year. I can guarantee, if games from customers of Epic sell well on WiiU, Epic will reconsidering the decision.

But generally it would be a clever move, if Nintendo would invest in porting the engine.

Next-gen han't even started yet.(No offense to Wii U)

Expect the next Batman game, the next Mortal Kombat, Borderlands 3(?), the "next Gears of War" from Epic.....these are all games that are certain to use UE4 since they used UE3. So unless these games I mentioned are also  coming to current-gen, expect UE4 to be used.

Yes, but that all will need time. You can be sure, should WiiU start to explode or only games based on UE start to sell good, Epic WILL port the engine. But they don't bother, because it makes no business-sense yet. So I say, that in the moment it is not important and for the future we will have to see how these things pan out.

I also said, it would be a clever move from Nintendo to pay for porting UE4.

I think youre gonna loose the bet with Ninjablade but win the other two. On topic, i say UE4 will be on WiiU 100%...but when its already well stablished on every other platform so devs find nonsensical to use UE3 anymore...

LOL, I'm carefully optimistic about my bet with Ninjablade. WiiU sold pretty well on the first weeks AND Sony tends to release in one region later (PS3 in europe and Vita in Europe and US).

I agree with you on UE4. That also needs the WiiU selling enough to justify putting enough games on it.

justify

Funny how Nintendo is the only one needing to justify this and that.

Nintendo doesn't care about Epic or Unreal Engine 4, and the feeling is likely mutual on the other side.

Nintendo's best bet now is to focus on indie developers, they are going nowhere trying to court the big Western devs and even got embarrassed by their closest partner in Ubi Soft with the Rayman debacle.

Nintendo would be better off trying to hit pay dirt by finding the next Angry Birds or Minecraft or Plants Vs. Zombies before someone else gets to it.

All that "downporting" PS4/720 games onto the Wii U does is point out how much of a hardware difference there is and makes Nintendo look even worse. They are better off focusing on original content made for the Wii U exclusively, and since big publishers won't gift exclusives, it's time to focus on indies.

Can someone put this to rest.

If Epic refuses to port their engine onto wiiu, or use their engine --whatever the 'term' is... How are any games that use UE4 going to make it onto wiiu? They aren't... that's what I'm taking away from this announcement. I'm not interested in the minutia of "how it can possibly happen in the foreseeable future" I'm interested in the FACTS.

If EPIC has refused to allow their engine onto wiiu --that means that no future UE4 game will make it onto the platform. So nintendo's only hope is to either pay out, or hope UE4 isn't licensed by many developers?

You want it put to rest, read the posts I've aleady typed.

FACT: UE4 can be ported on Wii U.
FACT: UE4 developed games can be ported to Wii U.
FACT: Epic will not officially port the engine themselves at this time as they are trying to sell the high margin UE3 engine and keep UE4 resource and support minimal.
FACT: Any developer with a UE4 license is granted the rights to port that engine to any device they can which includes Wii U.
FACT: Porting to Wii U won't be difficult.  UE4 is a multi-core/programmable shader based game engine.  Just like the architecture in the Wii U.
FACT: Way too much misinformation, ignorance, FUD, Trolling (yes, I used the damn word because it's true), hate, etc...on this forum for the past year.

This thread should have ended right here tbh, although you are incorrect regarding the fourth fact. Unreal Engine licences are given on a platform by platform basis. Porting a PS4 or 720 SKU of an Unreal 4 powered game to the Wii U will mean the developer will need to buy a separate licence for the Wii U. Not having the tools and support from Epic will make the Wii U licence cheaper though.

If you ended the thread there, I would have been right lol.

The bottom line is that EPIC is making it more difficult for wiiu developers to use their engine. Arguing about the technical specifications or the process by which you port it, is useless. Nobody cares how you do it lol, will a developer waste the time doing it? That is the question.

Apparently some people don't grasp the profit motive in creating these 'games.' Whatever the profit justification is, that's what you should be looking at. Obviously wiiu software sales are a graveyard, and we can't expect even COD or MADDEN to sell any meaningful numbers. Whatever the (low) number of units needed to break even is -- that number will be a justification to develop on wiiu.

As of this news, do you really anticipate every UE4 game on PS4/Xbax629 to also make it's way onto the wiiu? Don't kid yourself lol... IF that happens, you can be proven right. WHEN it doesn't happen, --well you'll realize your argument was invalid because you're looking at it from the wrong perspective.

Ubisoft once stated it cost about $1.2 million to port a game to Wii U.    That means to obtain a ROI, they'd need to sell about 55,000 units.

To port an engine may cost the same so your first game would need to double that return or be amortized across all games the company intends to develop on Wii U.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

it will all depends on if the devs are committed and think the game is worth putting on the Wii U

You would have to link the article. Even then, it sounds to vague. We have no idea what games would be in question, actual development costs, time constraints. Too many factors. "Ubisoft once said" is too vague of a statement.

Given the wiiu's lack of hardware, I wouldn't doubt that it would be beneficial to port shovelware onto the system. Much like the wii. But I'm having a hard time believing quality, AAA titles will be getting the same treatement, if even appearing on the wiiu. The devs and publishers, very early on, are making it known that they just don't have alot of confidence in the wiiu. I agree with their position, from an artistic perspective. But if the money is there, you'll see the games.

Sales are so low as of right now that it's just not something to call one way or another. Although you can speculate, as of now, that thing aren't looking good. It's the narrative and attitude that's being formed amongst the developers, publishers and consumer community in regard to this wiiu.
