Ubisoft once stated it cost about $1.2 million to port a game to Wii U. That means to obtain a ROI, they'd need to sell about 55,000 units. To port an engine may cost the same so your first game would need to double that return or be amortized across all games the company intends to develop on Wii U. |
You would have to link the article. Even then, it sounds to vague. We have no idea what games would be in question, actual development costs, time constraints. Too many factors. "Ubisoft once said" is too vague of a statement.
Given the wiiu's lack of hardware, I wouldn't doubt that it would be beneficial to port shovelware onto the system. Much like the wii. But I'm having a hard time believing quality, AAA titles will be getting the same treatement, if even appearing on the wiiu. The devs and publishers, very early on, are making it known that they just don't have alot of confidence in the wiiu. I agree with their position, from an artistic perspective. But if the money is there, you'll see the games.
Sales are so low as of right now that it's just not something to call one way or another. Although you can speculate, as of now, that thing aren't looking good. It's the narrative and attitude that's being formed amongst the developers, publishers and consumer community in regard to this wiiu.
