Nintendo will still have problems with 3rd Party developers. I wonder if the next Final Fantasy, Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid will be released at the same time on the Wii U. I somehow doubt it.

After RE6, MGS4, and FFXIII, I don't think I'd miss them.

Well, after Dragon Age, Oblivion/Skyrim, Mass Effect 2, GTA or Borderlands 1/2 I value them so much more... To be honest, most american/western game just have weak characters and shallow plots. They often focus on pure depiction of violence and call that "Mature". Japanese Games offer a completely different form of entertainment and there is no western Game in this generation that rivals FF XIII's depth of characters and Story.

I strongly, strongly disagree. ( And gameplay is much more important than story anyway)

Japan has produced some great games this generation, (Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Bayonetta, Xenoblade Chronicles...) but FF, RE, annd MGS were not among them.

They really cant afford to make a console that much powerful like the leap from Xbox/Ps2 --> xbox 360/Ps3. IMO I suspect the sweetspot for next generation consoles (Xbox720/PS4) would be between $349-$399. The Wii-U by then will probably cost $249. Another concern is that their hardware like the CPU will be superior that of the Wii-U, but wont be utilized to its fullest potential due to heat.

thats a body I can trust!

Well then Nintendo will be the lucky ones, which is why I think MS and Sony would be mad to do it. They have every reason to try to win 3rd party support away from Nintendo. We have hints at the power, like I've said many times before and won't be going over yet again.

The thing is though not every third party will be willing to jump toward more powerful systems yet and that is the hole in this theory. People seem convinced power was the only factor and it wasn't. It was mainly the install base. Wii had the smallest install base of the three.

What we need to find out first is how core gamers get on with wii u. Luck will have nothing to do with this. Provided core gamers accept wii u its highly unlikely it will lose third party support like wii did. Regardless of how much more powerful the other systems are.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

If it's supported for at least 5 years I'm happy.

Well, thats is your opinion. For me, gameplay alone is not enough to keep me interested. A game like Oblivion felt like an offline MMO to me, where you had tons of SIDEQUESTS, but not full drawnout story and character portrait.

So you could possibly spend several hundreds of hours in doing Sidequests (that are quite repetitive, offers not much rewards and you do the same sidequests in every game making them so much more repetitive...)

Thats the Problem with Western Gaming for me. I am playing almost exactly the same game (or the same game design) over and over. Whats the difference between Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2? Not much. It is almost the same game and it doesn't matter much which of the 2 I would be playing. They are almost interchangable (although they have some minor differences)

Whats the Difference between playing Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII or Final Fantasy XIII. Since they are built around the story, the gameworld and the characters they are simply not interchangable. I can go back to Final Fantasy X if I want to enjoy its Story. Neither FF XII nor FF XIII can be a substitution for FF X. And besides the different Stories, they also differ from the game design. So the older FFs are not going to be outdated by the new entries because each entry is something special.

Its similar to Resident Evil, although Action Games are not heavily built around characters and deep stories like a good RPG. RE2 is still a special experience to me and a RE2 HD would still be a different experience than RE 5 or RE 6.

Western Sequels often do not put their focus on story or characters. If you want to buy a game of a franchise you can often simply take the latest entry. It offers the latest graphics and the experience will not differ greatly among the various entries. There is not much reason to go back to the first entry. Story and Characters are the thing that keeps a game interesting.

So in the End, gameplay can break a game experience. But it is the story and character development that makes a game really great and make me wanna play a game again after some months/years.

yes i'll always say it and i'll stick to it cause so far i'm unimpressed and i like to be careful where i spend my money. most of the games i buy and i'm interested in for the ps3 are 3rd party exclusives. i dont care for the 1st party titles that much i only have a few. so if i see another system getting the games i want i'll obviously be insterested in that system.

nintendo tends to make a lot of promises but so far i'll wait and see. i think it will need a bigger hdd or an external storage solution if it gets a good digital market. so far i like the hardware but i need to see good support from the companies i care about of course.

i didnt buy my ps3 until 2009 cause i was waiting for the games and i'll stick to that philosophy for any console.

Makes sense. So the companies you care about, to answer my question a bit, what are they and what games would make you interested in the U?

Also, as for promises, it should be pretty clear that Nintendo has been filling its share of promises. They said they would cater to the core, the WiiU launch is anything but lackluster, the console comes in 2 SKUs, just like the HD twins, with a full Internet framework and online store, and even boasts a pro controller "just in case", because core gamers are finicky. So I think promises are on Nintendo's side atm, then again it's your money and I fully understand that.

i like jrpgs so the companies i care about are level 5, square enix and namco mostly. so far the most interesting game on the wii u for me would be dragon quest.

if it gets jrpgs and they sell well i would consider getting it as long as they are exclusive.

i didnt like that they region locked it. it wasnt a good call on their part and it doesnt make any sense nowadays.

this generation jrpgs havent sold very well on systems that arent the ps3. tales of graces didnt get localized outside of japan for the wii. so i'll wait and see what kind of support the wii u gets in terms of jrpgs in the first 3 years at least cause those kinds of games take a long time to release and localize.

You're right to go with the wait and see approach then. If the 3DS is any indicator of anything, the WiiU should get solid support from SE. Namco are partnering with Nintendo strongly these days (TTT2, Smash Bros U), and Tales has come to the cube before, and lately to the 3DS.

If you own a Wii did you like Xenoblade? Because if yes you can be sure that Monolith is cooking up a jrpg for the U. Then we have Mystwalker being a safe bet. All in all there is promise for your tastes on the U but to wait for now is good because they won't arrive at launch. Don't know if this info interests you but your explanation makes it clearer for me why you always answer that to OPs on Nintendo. But if they are improving in an area (like in this case better software support in general, not including jrpgs), mentioning that you're waiting for something more doesn't add value to OP imho, especially given the reason for sayin' it. You can acknoledge the progress or disagree with it, or say it's not enough. However the it's not enough is really limited in scope here, so it would at least help if you elaborated as to why off the bat.

But that's just my honest thoughts on it.

i do not own a wii, i considered getting it at one point but the amount of games i wanted for it didnt justify the purchase, besides they'd look ten times better emulated. my boyfriend wants to get one for party games but i think we might as well get a wii u later than a wii at this point in time.

i think the system looks good and the features look interesting, the pro controller is a welcome option. still it's a shame they region locked it, that makes it so we are totally depending on a game being localized on our region in order to play it, but i guess i can be happy that nintendo europe did better for the wii than nintendo america and hope the trend continues.

Yeah, your best bet would be to wait for the U and catch up on your backlog of Wii games on that (it'll be BW compatible). You don't mind playing older jrpgs like suikoden on PS, FF on SNES/PS, Valkyrie profile? If so then you should be ok playing XB Chronicles next gen it should be visually good enough I think. I wouldn't expect and HD remake of it though, given it is a niche game in the West (EU and NA) and they nearly didn't even release it in NA.

Though I never really played Fire Emblem, there are a lot of fans of that series here. FF Tactics got a version on the DS, and a lot of FF games came out re-released on the DS, so it's looking good. The DS also got TWEWY.

I was wondering if you own a DS. I think the DS, PSP and 360 were the jrpg consoles last gen, but I'm not sure.
