They really cant afford to make a console that much powerful like the leap from Xbox/Ps2 --> xbox 360/Ps3. IMO I suspect the sweetspot for next generation consoles (Xbox720/PS4) would be between $349-$399. The Wii-U by then will probably cost $249. Another concern is that their hardware like the CPU will be superior that of the Wii-U, but wont be utilized to its fullest potential due to heat.
