Forums - Nintendo - Reggie interview: Wii U will have a very long life period + good third party support

Resident evil 7 will definitely be day and date. Bank on it. That series is so bias to nintendo I can still taste the hater's tears from last gen. And then I still spot posts about people asking about the psp game which disappeared. Only to have two games on 3ds and no game in sight for the vita.

Nintendo will still have problems with 3rd Party developers. I wonder if the next Final Fantasy, Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid will be released at the same time on the Wii U. I somehow doubt it.

After RE6, MGS4, and FFXIII, I don't think I'd miss them.

Why the fuck are all people saying when the ps4/720 come out third party will stop making games for the wii u? wtf, iwata said before that others companies will eventually release more powerful systems but the difference in power will be much closer between them and dont will be as dramatic as it was with the wii comparing it to the ps3/360, and even with the wii franchises like CoD were releasing theyr games on the wii

but now will be a lot better, because the wii u even being the most "weak" of the next-gen systems as a HD platform + new engines to come i have no doubt that the games on it will still look amazing

Well, after Dragon Age, Oblivion/Skyrim, Mass Effect 2, GTA or Borderlands 1/2 I value them so much more... To be honest, most american/western game just have weak characters and shallow plots. They often focus on pure depiction of violence and call that "Mature". Japanese Games offer a completely different form of entertainment and there is no western Game in this generation that rivals FF XIII's depth of characters and Story.

Man, that looks sooooo good!!! I espacially want XenoBlade in HD - looks gorgeous!!!

Yeah, they look awesome! Like I said, unless there's an improvement in TV's resolution, which is highly unlikely... games will look at least great, nowhere ugly as wii games in HD TVs. Here's some more:

It's funny to say this, but at a proper resolution this one above here is a graphics king, imo.

My expectations for third party publishers are that they're going to be focused on making "multi-generational" games until the end of 2014 at the earliest, and after that the platforms they will target will be based on the userbases and sales of next generation hardware ...

If the Wii U sells well over its first 12 months you will probably see it become the lead platform for most next generation content released in 2015 and (probably) 2016. I expect this because publishers would anticipate that the Wii U would have the largest userbase of platforms these games were released on when they were released. Beyond 2016 it really comes down to how well the "XBox 720" and PS4 sell.

Hypothetically speaking, if the Wii U averages 15 million units per year over its first 3 years, the "XBox 720" launches in 2013 and averages 10 million units per year over its first 2 years, and the PS4 launches in 2014 and averages 10 million units in its first year it is likely that the bulk of third party games would be released for the Wii U for the rest of the generation; in contrast, if the Wii U averages 10 million units per year over its first 3 years, the "XBox 720" and PS4 both launch in 2013 and average 15 million units a year for their first 2 years, it is possible that the Wii U would soon be dropped as a supported platform for a large portion of games.

Of course, there is also the slim chance that the Wii U will sell at a similar rate as the Wii did for its first 3 years and the "XBox 720" and PS4 will sell at similar rates to the XBox 360 and PS3, and then the question becomes whether third party publishers will heavily support those consoles. After all, at the end of 2015 if the Wii U has 60 million units sold, the XBox 720 has 16 million units sold and the PS4 has 8 million units sold which platform would you target the bulk of your resources to if you were a third party publisher?

I understand what your saying. It may not be as big to make multiplat development impossible but there will be some kind of gap so developers like epic still have an excuse.

It depends how well the others catch on. This is more of a ps2/xbox/gamecube situation then a 360/wii/ps3 situation. When wii came out hd game development was becoming the standard but here wii u has a chance to get too far ahead. I do think third party support for 360 2 and ps4 won't be as good as people think. Companies are loyal to money and they would waste no time cancelling projects if either got off to a slow start.

You always have and always will say that, no matter what Nintendo does it would seem.

Is there anything Nintendo or a 3rd party could release on it that would make you buy it sooner? Otherwise, your post is applicable to 100% of threads on Nintendo's direction with WiiU.
