The mod team is divided over this, and we thought it would be a good idea to see what the community thinks.

We are fairly unanimous on there being no dislike button, so that isn't happening. The like button would be in the corner of a post. You would be able to see how many people liked the post, and what their usernames were. It's just a way of showing that you like the post in question.

Advantages:

• Removes need for "this" and "+1" posts;
• A good way of rewarding a thoughtful, intelligent or funny post;
• Self esteem boost, which is always nice.

Disadvantages:

• Encourages people to seek likes (maybe)
• Discourages conversation (maybe)

As you can probably tell, I am in favour. Can you think of any other advantages/disadvantages, and what do you think of the idea as a whole?

No. If there is a "like" button we will get so much spam like facebook has. Hit like if you think..... my news feed is filled with that crap.

These posts would definitely be banned under anti-spamming rules.

Maybe then if this was enforced. Maybe a short trial should be used for a month. Then ask the question again.

Yes, there should be a like button. Heres what you should do:

Make the '+2' and '+7' etc. appear very discretely in the top corner of the post box. I don't want to have a giant +128 beside all of my posts, as it would distract people from the interesting and informative contents of said posts.

DO NOT make the posts in the thread go in order of the number of likes they have received.

Oh, and it would also remove pointless spam posts of people saying 'This' or '+1' when they agree with a post. So yeah, implement it!

Forums really shouldn't have like buttons in my opinion. It doesn't feel like a forum then.
