I'm not sure how that last part makes sense? XD

Nor the first part, THE1. Please explain because I'm confused with your post.

Also, I think I smell a typo possibly?

Clarified now.

And surely you understood the first part? If a new user creates a thread where he suggest a few changes to a certain franchise and lots of comments saying how absolutely wrong he is gets upvoted, surely his self esteem won't be 'boosted'.

I still don't understand the last part. XD

Though I do get your first part now, makes sense.

I'm not saying it would be bad. I'd be fine with it.

I'm just not sure if it would actually improve anything.

The last part is about relativity. A comment only getting a few- or no likes won't be too much different from comments with dislikes. Or at least not if the opposing comments have much more likes.

A like button would not only boost self esteem, it would also decrease it.

That's of course what I thought in the back of my mind.

Question: Doesn't gamrnews have a like button? I seem to recall seeing something to that effect.
Question 2: Off-topic but since the mods are here, but what happened to having the console icons under our avatars?
General advice: Put it in, there's no harm in having it. If it doesn't work out, then get rid of it.

No, because I would feel bad when someone with a poorly written post gets 10 likes while my better post only gets 2 likes.

It'll also bring about a competition/elitist vibe imo.

And people would still post "this" & "+1".

1) gamrFeed did, yes. gamrFeed was shut down a few months ago for being terrible (which had nothing to do with the like button). But then that was a news site, not a forum.

2) That hasn't been there for ages, but I actually quite liked that too.

@General advice: I agree.

with the "like" button in play, those users would get banned/warned for spamming.

Can we implement this anyway

Please

And how is that any worse then just telling him how wrong he is etc??.

It gives him a sense of having a less valuable opinion.

Let's say that he's having a long discussion with another user who disagrees with his opinion, and each post that he makes receives no like while the opponent keep receiving at least five. That would make him feel less secure about expressing his opinion.

It's like having an audience yelling 'Boooo!' at you while you try to have a discussion with someone.
