Roughly the plot of the Killzone series.

Also the much older Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. While the opposite, Earth attacking the colonies would be like the even older Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri.

Never had the pleasure of playing those. Thanks for the info though.

This nut again, always going on about some nonsense...

You watch too many scifi movies, Hawking.

George Carlin has a somewhat similar argument, slightly different point of view though.

I agree with Tyson and you, and I'm surprised VGC has people who know who Tyson is. With Hawkings I understand this, he is a posterchild for science.

Idk I agree with Tyson. Then again I love Tyson so maybe I'm bias. Always watch Star Talk

I just have to emphasize that Tyson does absolutelty not oppose colonizing Mars, he just isn't as pessimistic about humanity's future on earth as Hawking. Actually, he said that he can't wait for the current generation of kids and students to grow older and be in charge, because he thinks we will the things his own generation has ruined

Well one, our generation doesn't mean shit. We will die here and that's all there is to it.

It's relevant however to generations 2, 3, 4, waves beyond us and by then Earth may be far from a "paradise".

Besides "easy living" isn't the pre-requisite for the human (or any other animal species) species. Realize the majority of your blood line lived in harsh conditions and many of them did not know when/where their next meal was coming from and lived with no automated heating, no working toilet, at the mercy of many elements, etc. etc. etc. This is a hostile planet and our ancestors when you look past the last 200 years (a blink of an eye) endured tremendous hardship, never forget that. People settling on even alien planets, as harsh as they would be, would still have many advantages humanity didn't have 200-300 years ago.

The earth and the sun will be around for millions of years. plenty of time for future generations who will be much more advanced to do all those things. we might aswell just chill out and enjoy life.

Sadly life on Earth is quite vulnerable, it only takes a large asteroid to destroy us which is a random factor and could happen at any time. I'd hope with modern astronomy we would have some warning but a asteroid could be discovered tomorrow on a collision course that could wipe out our existence within 5 years. It's highly unlikely to happen but still a possibility.

Same say that we live in the space age but I don't think so. Most people definitely don't have any interest in space travel, exploring space, colonizing other planets. Sure there's some companies that are taking an interest in it but that's mainly so they capitalize on being one of the first ones to do it and because it's basically not regulated. We don't have the tech to safely and efficiently go to the moon.

We're hundreds of years from colonizing anything at the rate of tech progression and desire. I think it would be awesome to actually start traveling the cosmos.

Why people wanna evacuate this planet to live in a shittier planet is beyond my intelligence. Terraforming is science fiction.

I essentially agree. I believe that God gave us this beautiful world to enjoy. I don't want to sit on the moon and look at Earth and keep dreaming of going back.

There's a reason why Earth is the only planet we can breathe and live on perfectly.

Because God only made one planet that was habitable.

Because we evolved on this planet and adapted to the conditions found here.

It looks like the universe itself will end anyway when all the expanding matter uses up its energy and contracts back down again to a single mass for the big bang to start again and I think its reasonable to say no intelligent life could ever survive that process so there is a finite limit to man's existence even if we reach the stars and even other galaxies.

Saying that I still think its important as a species to survive for as long as possible. I guess I have some loyalty regarding the human race for some reason and don't wish our culture to die. Just reading a book and engaging with the mind of someone who may not exist anymore is quite an amazing process when you think about it. When you look at the people of the past who have longed died was their existence pointless? I'd like to think it wasn't.

That's a theory that I like, but unlikely according to scientists. Big Freeze is more likely to happen according to them.

I was once very passionate about colonizing space and stuff. But today, I just think humans are not worth to do it. They are just way too stupid and too concerned about themselves to ever conquer the galaxy or even the universe. Today we have the internet and science moves forward faster than ever. But what I'm seeing is people getting dumber and dumber. We have so much wisdom it's not even funny anymore. Hell, the other day we found a very good candidate for dark matter with neutralinos. But no one cares, instead people want to ban other people from their country because of their origins, deny climate change, scream for war and even believe the earth is flat. It's ridiculous. Now I get that isn't true for everybody. But a species that would be capable of conquering space shouldn't have such problems on any significant scale. At all.

Right now humans can barely control themselves to not chop each others heads off just because someone comes from elsewhere, has different beliefs or just another skin color. Just imagine what would happen when we got to other planets. There's this little tiny thing called evolution which will lead to people on Mars or whatever to not look like humans on earth anymore. Depending on gravity they can get smaller or taller, they can develop better or worse senses, hell they could even develop higher intellect or body mutations. With the insanely stupidity of the human race, that will just lead to more hate for no reason at all. Wouldn't end well I'm sure.

Whatever, there's this small chance that humanity will get better in the future, but I just don't believe in it. I don't see any need for humans to stay in this universe. Today I think of humans more as a stepstone for evolution. The whole purpose of humanity for the galaxy or the greater universe is at best to build machines that can conquer the universe and learn more about its origins and future. But humans themselves will disappear someday and never come back. And I don't think that's a bad thing.
