Sixth mass extinction is going on. But life has survived worse.
As for humanity, I'd say it's 50-50 can we reach for other habitable planets before making this one inhabitable.
I imagine this century will see something (in some ways) worse than last. Just a civil war in China or India could kill more people than WWII. Not to mention sending out tens of millions of refugees.
I don't think AI is something to worry about, humanity is still much bigger danger to itself.

Humanity adopts. It always has. It might take wiping out a few billion, but in the end we will be fine.

No argument from me.

But always remember that there are people who have had it much worse. And be thankful for the good things that you have.

We've adapted for around 300,000 years, Dinosaurs had around a 180 million years of adaptation.  If humans exist in a million years, they will look nothing like humans do today.  We as an us on the planet now will be be fine yes.

In the 90's I was young and foolish, a kid.... but my outlook on the future of mankind was a lot more positive than it currently is.
I feel like we're not on as "good a path" as we were back then.

It's like the entire world took a few too many wrong turns or something.

Some of it is cultural... like the metoo, feminism gone overboard, dating being basically a thing of the past / hookup culture, women swearing off men (man hate), men replying with "men go their own way", not to mention stuff like gender policies/identity stuff.  We had a period of body positivity that was just women promoting being fat (how many of these influencers died in their 30/40s? its not healthy to die at 40, because of lifestyle choices). Europe doesn't look the same. There are so many 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants that don't want to assimilate into society, learn to speak local languages, or attempt to fit in.  Look at France, with the mass riots over nothing (schooling spend supposedly), and then their hatred for western society means they think its okay to run around setting stuff on fire, or smashing things, mass destruction just leads more spending on upkeep.  The replacement theory has born true... some parts of Europe the immigrant are higher % of the population than the people originally from there.  Like Luxembourg, the people (natives) of the country are less than 50% of the population now. All of Europe will soon turn Muslim, and start to look like the middle east / africa.

Then there is global warming (rising sea levels).... and all the wars, and fights for resources to come (water, oil).  

in short yes... the world seems fucked.
Western society, does seem on a downward trend.

Who knows what impacts will come from A.I or a SGI being born?

What is true for dinosaurs isn't for mankind.

I think unless we master genetic modification to the point where we can design super humans or something...
we'll basically stay as is for the next million years, if we re still around by then.
