Yea also that isnt even close but alright its your opinion its fine, you prob dont play many games.

Ive played more than you that's for sure. Give me your reasoning of how the combined jap/western games  is more impactful on ps4 than ps3.

Capcom:

RE2R, RE4R, RE7, RE8, MHW, MHR, Iceborne, Sunbreak, SF5, SF6, DMC5. (Maybe I should mention RE3R too, since it sold over 10 million despite being mediocre).

SquareEnix:

FF7R, FF14 and expansions (only ARR and Heavensward were crossgen with PS3), DQ11, NieR Automata, TWEWY Neo, FF15, KH3.

From Software:

Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, Elden Ring, Armored Core 6.

Atlus:

Persona 5 (crossgen), P5R, SMT5V, Metaphor.

It's the standard opinion that Japanese developers struggled in the transition to HD, and "made a comeback" on PS4. If you think they were better on PS3, it's fine and you're entitled to your opinion. But saying there weren't as many highly regarded Japanese games on PS4 is delusional and goes against the consensus.

The best Japanese games in the PS3 era were spread out across multiple consoles and handhelds. PS3 by itself wasn't that good. One PS3 highlight though was that Platinum Games made 3 great games on it (including a terrible port made externally) vs just NieR Automata on PS4. Platinum prioritised Nintendo's platforms after PS3.

I never said there weren't as many as good japanese , i said of all the releases japanese, there was alot of slop  between.  Japanese probably did releases more better  games, because some were hit and miss with the fans,  but thats hard to say, because there were alot of single player classics that weren't a franchise  and offered and didn't get sequels on ps3

But as i mentioned and will say again, if you include western exclusives, it definitely puts ps3 over.

I mean that's subjective, but PS4 sold more than twice as much software as PS3. It's the only console to have surpassed 2 billion (without factoring in f2p and PS+ which are even bigger today than traditional games).

If you're going to argue that western games were better during PS3 days as some sort of undeniable truth (using metrics like critical reception), then the same can easily be said about Japanese games favoring PS4 and to a greater extent.

Console western gaming peaked in the PS3 era from my experience, but as a Japanese game fan it's just not enough to put it ahead of PS4 overall. To say nothing of visuals and performance...

PS3's OS is quite slow when connected to the internet and playing a game. It was fine/smooth offline from what I recall.

Yeah it's quite fast now when using it for CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/stored media. Accessing the pop up UI from in a game or the store was terrible.

Was it WiiU with the half hour+ first time on patch? Was the worst unboxing experience.

I never experienced the Wii lineage! But if the Wii U really was slower than in-game/online PS3 as some are implying, then I'm semi glad to have never experienced it. And as a sucker for small controllers (Dualshock 1-3), just looking at that goddamned gamepad gives me anxiety 🥶

I bought one back in the day. I was a fan of PS1 and PS2, having owned both. But the PS3... sigh. It was just so "meh" that gen. At least for me and my tastes. That time in gaming was all about the 360 and Wii. The Wii for the family and casual fun, and the 360 for the core goodness. The PS3, I don't know. It had some stellar exclusives, but the console, the UI, the controller, PSN, it seemed old and archaic compared to the 360. And its ports were usually subpar. It really was a blunder on Sony's part. Totally dropped the ball, imo.

On a side note, I did however think Kevin Butler was amazing.

Wii U initially was much slower than PS3, like insanely, laughably slow. This was eventually improved via updates, but even now I'd say it's OS is similar in speed to PS3, which was a big downgrade from how relatively snappy the Wii was. (For its time anyway)

I highly doubt that...but alright.

What you call "slop" others may enjoy a lot so thats just a opnion when talking about sheer amounts.

First of, played all the exclusives on ps3(yea even untold.legends and genji hahah) and i agree ps3's exclusives from sony where nr1 a lot more and nr2 a bit better then on ps4,however gravity rush 1 and 2 where amazing and games like gow 2018 and horizon zero dawn where godtier games.

In terms of western AAA games yea ps4 had Witcher3 and Red dead redemption2,ps3 had  gta4/5 but sorry witcher3 just beats them all and its not even close.

Since i like japanese games a lot thats what i played the most on ps4.

Now this is going to be tricky because if i say" persona5 you can say(its also on ps3) but then again it was released also on ps4)

Ps4 has.

Dragon quest 11

Dragon quest builders 1 and 2

Dragon quest heroes 1 and 2

Nier automata

Ninokuni 2(and1)

Ff7 remake

Ff15(yea thats slop i agree)

A shitton of atelier games but most noteable 3 Ryza.

Shitton of yakuza games(ps3 also had great yakuza games but all of them are also on ps4)

Octopath 1 and 2.

Couple of tales of games.

Star ocean first R and second R

Couple of YS games (love those!)

I can go on and on there hundreds of jrpgs on ps3.

Not even including hundreds of indies but if you think indies are al "slop" then yea sure whatever.

My point was ps3 doesnt even come close to the amount of physical games it offers against the ps4 with or without including the crossgenn one's,not in the dayum slightest.

Dont get me wrong btw iam not attacking you or trying to offend, but saying"there where more games on ps3 vs ps4 just isnt true, thats all.

And having a "impact" varries from gamer to gamer so if thats all you ment with it then point taken and i'll shut up.

I need to learn how to edit quote. Are you a fan at all on western games or just Japanese games?  If you are both equally,  you would come in agreement with me on ps3 getting the edge overall.

For some people yeah, it depends on what games theyre into. Are we talking overall number of quality games, are we factoring the impact of genre defining games that started on a particular system, or both?

We can start listing japanese released titles on ps3/ps4, and western and start comparing and making cases, even though that would take forever lol.

I generally prefer Japanese games, but PS3 was the exception where I enjoyed western games a little more (out of the limited pool of games that I played). But for my taste and based on my limited experience and the things that I hear from the community, I get the sense that the quality of western AAA games declined in the PS4 generation, whereas Japanese games recovered. Overall I liked PS4 a lot more.

There are metrics that put PS3 ahead, and other metrics that give PS4 the win. It's okay to like one more than the other. Maybe I misunderstood one of your comments, but it sounded like you were downplaying PS4's Japanese games advantage (in quality and quantity) and overestimating PS3's "objective" advantages.

Metacritic gives PS3 the win in "90+" quantities, but critical reception doesn't always align with the consensus. PS5 is destined to beat both and yet many understandably consider it the worst of the three.

I probably enjoyed the Japanese exclusives around the same. I am still grateful for what they gave us on ps4. I never got into the monster hunter series, and wasn't a big fan of the RE  remakes, but i loved games like shadown of colossus remake,(prob my top 5 of all time),  nier automata,  the last guardian, dragon quest 11(another top 5/10) , persona 5, sekiro ( second fav souls game),  elden ring, shenmue collection ( top 10), death stranding ( another goat), kingdom hearts 4

Ps5, is definitely the weakest so far. Having said that, i am not dissatisfied, as i find myself falling behind and a backlog of games growing. Though circumstances are different this gen, i find myself married and working full times and spending alot less time gaming now then i did then.

But speaking in terms of first party exclusives, playstation feels like it's moving at a slower pace than previous generations. If i was still working part time and single, I'd probably be complaining about the lack of exclusives.

Western devs were at their all time peak in the 7th gen IMO; Mass Effect trilogy, Bioshock trilogy, Dead Space, Uncharted trilogy, TLOU, FEAR, Enslaved, Resistance, Bulletstorm, COD at its peak, Oblivion, Skyrim, Motorstorm, etc.
