If microsoft were smart theyd go big on physical. They wouldnt even need exclusives anymore. Theyd get a nice chunk of marketshare back. They might even sell more than sony for once.

Quick, spam Asha's SoMe accounts with that idea, if we are lucky, she'll take the bait!!!

Nah, not going to happen (even though one can dream). Microsoft is very happy with the all digital future.

I understand, and based on their history we can make an educated guess on what they'd do next, but they've been spiraling and how can you not see this as anything but an opportunity to at least gain some footing for their next console? In terms of marketshare, its a winning strategy.

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

Because people forget and accept eventually.

Also must surely have something to do with the unprecedent success of GTA VI being digital only.

Or SNY is trying to bait MS into following suit and announcing or moving forward with fully digital next gen XB.

SNY could fully intend to have PS6 be no different than PS5 with physical media, and in a year from now, if MS took the bait so they'd be locked in next gen, SNY could backtrack publicly and would easily get forgiven prior to next gens launch.

SNY was going to have a camera for PS4, remember. They ended up deciding against it, or perhaps never intended to bundle it with the launch console.

Nah, this isn't any mastermind 4D chess move, this is pure greed and drive for control.

Sony is full on corporate greed mode.

I talked about how Sony rigged the stats to tell the narrative that suited them in this thread: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/250255/sony-uses-fuzzy-math-to-claim-that-only-17-of-ps5-gamers-choose-physical/

From Sony's Q1 2025 report. Found here: https://www.sony.com/ja/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/25q1_supplement.pdf

"10 Full game software digital download ratio is calculated by dividing PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5 full game software units sold via digital
transactions by total full game software units."

In other words, every indie game that has no physical release and is sold for $5 to $15 counts the same as a full fledged $70 game release. And PS4 games that have no new physical copies (because the system is last gen) also count towards their "83% download ratio." In fact, any PS5 game too old to be on store shelves anymore as a brand new copy will be counted for this as well.

This is just another example of how companies purposefully hamstring physical sales to make it look like consumers are "choosing" digital.

I see I'm not the only one thinking about that legendary moment from 2013...

Despicable yet completely expected.

Theres been like 40 to 50 years of gaming history up to this point, i honestly feel like theres enough shit to go back to for the rest of my life that i dont need to buy a new console ever again anyway.

For once i fully agree with you!! Heck even with mine 800+- collection i have 10years of backlog.

Does this mean third parties can't make discs? Does this kill companies like LRG?

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Maybe, maybe not.

MS bundled Kinect with XB1 and screwed themselves royally.

MS also seemingly tried to box PS5 in, assuming it would be $400 like PS4 was, but that didn't work out either since it ended up $500 like Series X.

SNY could be trying to get MS to continue on the fully digital future XB has been on, assuming that will hurt XB even worse next gen.

Also could just be greed like you say. I'd rather it be a 4D chess move where SNY backtracks.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
