Forums - Sony - ITS OVER Sony Interactive Entertainment to end physical game disc production in January 2028

I'm not so sure. The way the world is going, where everything is becoming a rental or subscription, more and more people are starting to get upset and want to return to full physical ownership. There's a reason why so many people don't like what's going on with AI and some are red hot mad about it.

That's not what the data shows. Instead, there's a near-constant decline for in physical media revenue and ownership and declining interest on it in younger age brackets.

It's like those articles a while ago about young men converting to catholicism while the reality is the opposite trend. The niche being presented as the norm due to wishful thinking.

I do like my physical PS5 disc collection, after owning no non-Nintendo console for over a decade, but I knew it was this last hurrah.

Good. About damn time. The digital to Phyiscal ratio on PlayStation has been 4 to 1 for about a few years now.
Microsoft must be salivating now that Sony has taken all the bad press and they can follow suit.
Steam had this since their inception and no one bats an eye.
And for those that are crying about this, You must be glad that it took them this long to go fully digital.

Theres been like 40 to 50 years of gaming history up to this point, i honestly feel like theres enough shit to go back to for the rest of my life that i dont need to buy a new console ever again anyway.

For once i fully agree with you!! Heck even with mine 800+- collection i have 10years of backlog.

i fully agree with me too, so we are in agreement on two things. we are on a roll today

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

How legit is the data/source/interpretation? Does anyone perhaps have an agenda?

Data also showed lots of land would be under water 30 years ago, yet it's still not, and seems like it won't be for another 75+ years, if ever.

Ha, I thought I was done with the PC. I may consider building another for GOG, the only digital I would buy. May even get rid of everything Sony, this news has kinda of pissed me off.

GOG, emulation, and modding. The number of "dead" games on PC I've been able to play that are no longer available on a digital storefront just because the PC community refused to let the games die is astounding. In the digital age, PC is going to be best for game preservation.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

I remember when Nintendo launched a $250 tiny DS successor with no relevant launch titles, for the first 8 months. And Sony's Vita was even worse. Then the handheld market crashed. And people claimed it was smartphones, instead of a 200% price hike in handheld hardware.

This will happen with game consoles. They will die out. And instead of pointing to multiple price increases on 5-year-old consoles, no disk games, and a disastrous focus on live-service games, they will claim that PC and mobile were "the main downfall of game consoles".

"Content not viewable in your region" - exactly like our game collection if a government ever decide they want to block access to digital games.
