Forums - Sony - ITS OVER Sony Interactive Entertainment to end physical game disc production in January 2028

Well thats one less thing to worry about i guess.

If microsoft were smart theyd go big on physical. They wouldnt even need exclusives anymore. Theyd get a nice chunk of marketshare back. They might even sell more than sony for once.

If Microsoft included 98% of the game on disc for all future games I would buy an Xbox.

So would I, no question. I usually buy all the systems anyway, series x is the only one i skipped because there just doesnt seem to be any point. But if they leaned into the physical market, basically all those games would essentially become xbox exclusives.

Enough bad press and sony could backtrack. Weve seen companies do this before. I feel like weve made a statement about GKCs, we can make a statement about this too.

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

I'm probably 50-50 physical digital, whatever is cheapest when I'm ready to buy a game. The industry keeps giving me new reasons to focus on other hobbies. The chances that I buy a PS6 is diminishing every day.

It's only sony games, not all games. Which is massive relief

Yeah, you may wanna re-read the article.

It says 'Sony interactive' will end, so I'm going to assume it's first party 😔

Could also be 4D chess where SNY has every intention of backtracking but wants to try and bait MS into making XB jump completely into all digital only before Asha fully throws things in reverse back to OGXB/XB360 territory.

Theres been like 40 to 50 years of gaming history up to this point, i honestly feel like theres enough shit to go back to for the rest of my life that i dont need to buy a new console ever again anyway.

First sentence of the article says "as consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from physical discs to digital, physical game disc production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028."

That likely means even Xbox is losing discs, Sony is stoping BD production, who will other companies buy BDs from to release their discs?

Boutique labels such as Limited Run Games, which I'm not really all that fond of to begin with, are pretty screwed.

Sure they'll still be able to make games on Nintendo platforms, but that's a HUGE chunk of business they'll be losing out on.

Good. Less boomer shit in the world the better.

Time to get rid of cars! Boomer sports and boomer wars! Also get rid of boomer music and movies! You own nothing and be happy

I agree.
