Does it matter? if graphics and such are fine, and you have a hard time telling, if it was done by ai or not?
I would prefer that Story and such, where always done by humans. If textures and such, are done by Ai there better be good oversight, that look over and polish each thing.... so it doesn't show up poorly in game.
Like does it matter, if you generally cannot tell? |
Big studios used human labor to fill in boring background details in the race for realistic graphics, people get tasked with modeling a chair, a table, a window, rocks, trees. Not exciting artful ones, the normal stuff. So the video game worlds get filled with detail for you to look at things with your high resolution. In the past with limited hardware games used to only model what was needed for the gameplay:

So back in the day everything put in a scene had meaning and it had meaning for the artist designing it. Nowadays people have to create meaningless background noise.
Let's fill in the details by AI, make the artistic decisions by humans is what I think.
In the end we want good games. And gamers have driven the impulse for more meaningless details. I mean in the console wars people started counting grass bushels in GTA on different platforms to say that one was totally better or something. Completely pointless details, but it matters to gamers.
That's why I like stylistic games like HD2D games, because it brings back that artistic decisions matter. These are less likely to be designed by AI, as they are unique, and not just boring realism.
So yeah, what matters if AI made the textures for a wall, sand, a tree. As if anyone cares. But the real artistic decisions, they have to be made by humans.
