While they suck in the short term in the long term lay offs are for the best since the goal is for all required labour for society to function to eventually be automated resulting in no one having to work to get by any more since robots will be taking care of everything. In general stuff like any noise pollution is incredibly minor compared to the actual major concerns surrounding AI so it would be for the best to focus more on the stuff that's really important.

You want a world where everybody loses their job to automation? You realize what a dystopian nightmare that is? People can't buy houses without jobs. And then robots will see humans as effectively useless and destroy us all.

So why not remove the connection of having a job with the ability for survival (food, shelter, etc.). Improvements in productivity mean first and foremost, that you can produce the same values with less work or more values with the same work. Why is the distribution of said values so inanely connected to your work and why do some people live off the work of others? That is not natural, that is the way we formed society, aka capitalism. The insane part is how  this system is so deeply ingrained in peoples brains, that they draw the connection automatically, like you do if you say without a job you have no house. Let's change the system, so that is no longer the case.
