Forums - Gaming - What Games Would You Be Willing to Purchase For $100USD?

None. $80 is my absolute ceiling for a base game that isn't a collector's edition. And normally my ceiling is around $70.
I'm not paying $100 even for 3D Mario or anything like that.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

PS5: 116 million (was 105 million, then 115 million, then 122 million)

Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

probably a Zelda game (not a remake, of course)

Nothing. 100 USD is 135 Canadian (or if you're Valve, 150 Canadian). There are no games (if I'm paying for JUST the game...special or collector editions are not part of this conversation) I would pay that kind of money for. I would wait for the sale or just not play it.

Honestly can't relate to the general consensus saying "nothing", as someone who doesn't purchase very many new games anymore (and never really did relatively speaking), it really would be no problem if one of the massive games I look forward to that only come every few years were 100$ if it's a huge open world game with tons of content. Anything with 100+ hours of runtime really if the quality matches. On the other hand I would never pay $60 for a Mario sports game or another title with a similar scope, $40 would be the absolute ceiling and realistically even that is a bit high for me. I've always been advocated more price variety because realistically the difference between a lot of games is like fastfood and a three course meal.

I'm not saying developers should make their hyped up games $100 however because as this thread makes obvious they would be hit with a lot of backlash by most players, but I can't say it would stop me from buying them if it actually felt deserved for the title.

Suppose a game just dropped and it has been announced that it will retail for a fixed $100USD. No discounts. The price today is the price tomorrow…well, at least for the first 12 months on retail. Then it drops to $60USD. What game would this be in order for you to purchase at $100USD?

For me, there are some immediate games that come to mind: 2D/3D Zelda, 2D/3D Mario, mainline Pikmin. Beyond that? Reviews would need to be glowing to convince me to purchase at the $100USD price tag.

What about you?

Console sellers.
There are games (In my case usually 3D Mario games) that will have me go out and buy a Nintendo console, mainly just to play that 1 game.
Factor in the price of the console, and its way more than 100$.

However there are very few of these titles imo.
Most games aren't at that level (we're talking 3D zelda/Mario games here, if they score/review well, and look appealing too me).

I'm typically the "wait for it to go on sale" before buy....  Nowadays I usually don't even do day1 buys (I have done so for a few recently, Baldurs Gate 3, Clair Obscur: E33, did it with like Disco Elysium and The Thaumaturge, some of Trail series ect.... it has to be something that looks really appealing, and that I want to support)

Like if Persona 6 releases at 100$.... I might do it.
I really loved 3,4,5.

I mean, I technically did when I got my first job back in 1998. N64 games ran $50 to $70, or around $102 to $143 in today's money. Games getting technically cheaper over time has been nice and all, but I would consider paying $100 for a game from a series that I really, really liked, and if it reviewed well and had good word of mouth. Basically the absolute tippy-top high-priority titles. Everything else I'm fine paying $60-80, depending on what it is.

Strongly share this mentality, I’d much rather purchase one $100USD game that’ll be a surefire hit than several $20-40USD games that I’ll get a few weeks of fun out of.

For instance: I ultimately saved money buying TotK at $70USD since that was the only game I played and purchased (besides Pikmin 1+2 & Pikmin 4) between May and October that year. Games like Mario Wonder and Pikmin 4, as much as I absolutely adore them, hold me over only two or three weekend before I decide to purchase my next game.

Just quit gaming. If they want more money they should release games to a bigger market , not increase the prices.

None

You can bet your sweet ass any publisher willing to charge $100 for a game will make sure it is loaded with lots more ways to squeeze more money from you.

Persona 6 has been cooking for a long time and 3-5 are some of my favorite games. But unless Persona 6 is about 5 years out at least, I'm not paying $100. i already am a little reluctant to get it at launch whenever it finally comes out because it will probably get a Golden/Royal version 3-4 years after release.
