I don't think we will see much (if any) impact for this year. Even in Japan where the price hike was the strongest, it still the least expensive system in the market

They delayed the price hike to Q4, which is a time of the year people are more prone to impulse buying or accepting paying more for gifts (or simply have more money from salary bonus)

Now next year is when things will be getting more interesting. Q1 was relatively mid after the spudily high launch year, and that was with the surprising hit of Pokopia making the sales to skyrocket by March

Exactly, all the predicitions people are making are based on prices staying at current rate.
Which is fair if you at least make that assumption explicit.
But people aren´t doing that, and merely attack others who don´t give as high as prediction.
As you say, it´s implausible for prices to stay ¨high¨ forever.
So logically, a later release date would be more likely to benefit from price drop.
In fact there is a lot of new production capacity in fabs that will come online in the coming years.
Any basic supply/demand model would take that into account in pricing forecasts.
Yet nobody here is even mentioning that basic factor. They are just so sure of their present-market perspective. 

It's not, now the japan only PS5 is cheaper than the japan only NS2.

Not that will matter tho, NS2 is by far the most appealing system there.

And to counter the price hike, I imagine Nintendo will be eagerly awaiting to announce the Switch 2 Lite by the beginning of next year.

I remember you (and a couple others) arguing with me that PS5 being expensive and Switch 2 cheap somehow made sense for the Japanese market. At that time, PS5 (with disc drive) was a lot more expensive than Switch 2. Fastforward, and now base PS5 digital is cheaper than a base Switch 2!

Sony should've released its region locked PS5DE earlier. Though it may just be a matter of time before it too gets a price increase.

I'm not sure how much the cheap language locked ps5 is actually stocked though. I think Sony have a strict limit on how many they ship to not lose too much. Amazon.co.jp currently only has it with third party sellers anyway.

Doesn't really work like that. They could be the only console on the market, a price increase is still going to affect your sales.

Regardless of how well they do this year, they would have sold a decent amount more if the price remained the same.

Would who have thought back in time that ns instead of getting a price drop, will instead have to get a price hike.

This is especially true if the news report I read a couple days ago is correct.

I'm there, they said that investors are shunning Nintendo because apparently even a $100 price hike could be not enough anymore to not sell the console at a loss.

In other words, this would mean that a Switch 2 would need to sell at $600 to ensure profitability of the console itself, and the PS6 will be much more expensive to produce than a a switch 2.

In fact, I'm mostly worried about the handheld variant of the PS6, as it's rumoured to come with a high-performance chip and 24GB of RAM, I don't see that one being sold at anything less than $600 already, and that would be selling at a considerable loss.
