ZUN! Not the greatest but might be my personal favorite. Touhou has some incredibly addictive music that I find myself listening to very often. And they're fun to play on the keyboard.

It's to early to sat on CO E33 composer, could be a flyke and a few others to need to spread some wings so I'll go with Darren Korb. I can still feel the unique atmosphere he brought to Transistor and while he didn't change as much as I'd like he hasn't nose dived, Transistor might be the most atmospheric game ever almost exclusively cause of the music and sound work, play the game on mute and it's not remotely the same.

Yoko Shimomura with Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy XV, Super Mario RPG (both original and remake) and some tracks in Smash Bros alongside other games has become a more recent favorite of mine.
Koji Kondo is great too.
Motoi Sakuraba of Star Ocean and Tales Of series is great at making non-battle music but not as good as Uematsu.

Nobuo Uematsu and its not even close.
Ff 6 till X had the best gaming music i have ever heared
Yoko Shimomura work is otherworldly. I keep coming back to some tracks from FF XV, Kingdom Hearts and Xenoblade Chronicles.
Yuka Kitamura also created fantastic pieces for Dark Souls series. It is such a shame she left Fromsofware. I hope she finds a suitable place for her talent.
I have a lot of favourites, and they changed over time. In my earliest days, the soundtracks that stuck out the most were those by Hip Tanaka.
Hip Tanaka is known for the iconic soundtracks of Metroid, Earthbound, Tetris (GB&NES), Dr. Mario, and Kid Icarus. His style is distinct in that he plays around with pacing changes and silence. No one else was doing atmospheric music like him at the time.
Apart from that, he was Nintendo’s main sound effect guy, his iconic sound effects in Donkey Kong, Mario, can be found in dozens (if not hundreds) of games dating all the way back to Nintendo’s early arcade games.
And being in the NES/GB era, he was also a programmer/engineer.

For me, there are only two that stick out in the upper echelon.
Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu.
Koji gave us Mario and Zelda themes, to name his biggest and highest quality accomplishments.
Nobuo gave us many Final Fantasy themes like "One Winged Angel", "Melodies of Life", "No Promises to Keep", and even Super Smash Bros. Brawl's main theme.
I have to give it to Koji. A lot of the Mario and Zelda music just stays with you forever.
