Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo details free Switch 2 updates coming to several Switch 1 games

I'm mainly looking for Pikmin 4....

The lack of a free upgrade makes me think they're planning a Switch 2 edition.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Visuals (TV and Portable Resolution), Framerate

So Scarlet and Violet get these visual upgrades for free, while for Legends A-Z it is a Switch 2 edition, which we will probably have to pay for. And for that they list as enhancements:

  • Improved performance with higher frame rate and resolution

So the same as for Scarlet and Violet.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

I'm more interested in the improvements that any Switch game will have by just running on a Switch 2. Nintendo pretty much confirmed we should expect some upgrades if the game has room for it (dynamic resolutions, fluctuating framerates, loading times, etc).

Indeed, it was one of my highlights from the NS2 announcement. The move to JIT compilation should bring DRS games that struggled on Switch to their top intended performance. Glad that Nintendo has finally joined this way of dealing with backwards compatibility, instead of their previous hardware solutions.

This shift likely explains why they didn't specifically mention a framerate increase for Link's Awakening. Instead of unlocking the framerate, it's more probable that the JIT compilation will ensure the game consistently hits its target 30fps.

Wait, didn't Link's Awakening run at 60fps with drops whenever entering or exiting certain loading zones? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong...

Yeap, the fps of Link's Awakening is unlocked, so I think the game dont have a update to maintain a stable 60fps.

BTW, as someone who really got into Game Builder Garage, I really apreciate the update. Mouse controls will be great for creating stuff in docked mode and better visuals are nice given how sometimes the game could look kinda blurry.

I just hope they would increase the number of nodons per creation. It is the most limiting factor in the game.

Yeah, I mean they just want the new pokemon game to sold alongside the Switch 2 but its clearly just a just Switch game with the res and FPS bumped. Unlike Metroid which has new graphical detail

Exactly. All about Legends A-Z is underwhelming which is even more highlighted by the contrast with all the other games getting Switch 2 editions. But this makes it even more clear: Violet&Scarlet get the same upgrades for free without a specific Swotch 2 edition. I really think they just want boxes with that red printed on them. But they could've made a least a little effort.

Where's my Xenoblade X 60 fps update. We know it's already in the code so hopefully it isn't too long after the release of the hardware.

It would be so great if we got a co-op upgrade similar to what Pikmin 3 got on Switch 1.

Sorry for that, got confused with Pemalite's comment.

The game targets 60fps that's double-buffered. So when 60fps can't be achieved during the second timeframe it gets immediately cut down to 30fps.

Which reminds me, splitscreen splatoon would be a dream
