I used to do ~2 games at a time for several years, but now I mostly play them one at a time (except Warcraft III which I always play) though sometimes I'll put something on standby for a while.

Wow, you mad man. Do you finish games that way?

Depends. Being ADHD if I get a new game I usually focus on that. If I am in the mood for a genre I play several at a time or since I play a lot of retro games and arcade-style games. Most of those are over in 25 min to an hour so I will play a number of them in one sitting or that day/week. A couple weeks ago was in a shmup mood for retro ones so I played about 35 plus of them within a couple of days across new and old platforms. When the DQ3 remake arrives probably just focus on that. Since good single-player TPS games are rare these days and a genre I like a lot. Another I will experiment with several I already beaten before. So I might play 20 min of Gears then another 20 min of VanQuish or Space Marine 2 or Binary Domain or Aliens Fireteam Elite or Evil West or Gungrave GORE and such.

Most of them are open-ended anyway apart of the RPGs, which I do step by step and then redo with a different party composition

Only exception is Eador: Masters Of The Broken World, but even on the easiest setting this game takes a couple hundred hours to play through (To give you some context, the game is broken down into turns, and each turn is a new game on an increasingly large map that might take as long as a session in Civ to complete), so you pretty much need to take some breaks in between.

One to relax with (Puzzling Places), one to warm up with (Synth Riders), one to progress with (Max Mustard).

That's usually how it goes. One 'progress' game at a time, couple evergreen games to relax/warm up.
Next 'progress' game will be Metro Awakening once I pick up the pro. Then Max will be on hold until Metro is finished.

Very good system. 👍. Great minds think a like, this is pretty much my go to system right down to putting my main game on hold. How does it work out for you though, some of my main games slip into the back log after making the jump back I just don't seem to be in the mood for it although I do try.

The amount of games though I have going now is insane, discounting the evergreens, there are 7 games on my home screen I'm actively playing and it's actually working out. I might do a Saturday or a Sinday here and there where I pick this kind of gaming and dive into backlog playing as many as I can and see what pops off again. It's actually very doable.

Same. My progress game before Max was Madison VR, while I switched back to Puzzling Places from GT7 (relaxing on the Nordschleife in custom races)

And there's many more still waiting to get back to. It's a risk starting a new game but as I grow older I don't feel the need anymore to complete games. Just do what you feel like in the moment.

Life is too short to put 'rules' on the way you enjoy entertainment. And it feels damn liberating. "I should continue/finish game A first" go away voice, I'm excited to play this now. I have plenty games still sitting on my shelf, unopened, fell between the cracks of time because of my previous 'system'. Like Returnal for example :/ And it also held me back starting Elden Ring, since I always had that feeling "finish what you start", thus long games became more and more of a drag to even start / sample.

In run my week like a well oiled machine.

Saturday-Sunday: long game sessions! Witcher 3 or Zelda.
Monday-Thurs: Short game sessions! FF6, SMB3, DKC, and a pool of like 580 other games plus anything that catches my eye!
Friday: Something fun! WarrioWare is a good example. But often it’s films. Some do have insensitive subject matter (but only in funny ways).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It's a bit complicated. I have some longstanding favourites I play every on PC now and then, somewhat regardless of whether I might have any other games in progress on PC. I can also have some more finishable games I play, in which case these longstanding favourites might temporarily take a step back or not. This is all for myself; my partner also likes watching me play but only on consoles, where I might have some finishable games I play kind of alongside the PC games. But I might also play some games with my partner on PC every now and then. It's a bit of a mess, but it works for me.

I absolutely do not ever start a new finishable game in a certain 'slot' if I'm already (actively) working on some other game in that 'slot'. I guess the 'slots' are really PC and consoles, so just two, i.e. I'm actively working on only one finishable PC game at a time and one finishable console game at at time (or just one of them), because I play them in different situations. Of course sometimes I kind of drift away from finishable games I've started, in which case I might start new finishable games at some point, although I have some reluctance to do so.

See, there's a bit of a system here, but it's somewhat complicated. It's not too orderly, and it's not pure chaos either - it's a nice blend of both (just like me on many things in general, which kind of makes me appear a conflicted person to the outside sometimes).

2 games at home (Between Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and PC mostly with occasionally a Switch title).

1 game when I'm at work during break with my Switch.

It used to be just one game at a time. Now i split it between 2 or 3 throughout the day, so my day feel longer. Or it feels like i accomplished more through out the day. However if the game is story driven and has me on edge, i may just stick to one game. If the game is more casual/laid back, i can mix a few around. Right now i'm juggling starfield, black ops 6, astro and wwe2k24
