Like others said, that's not U.S. sales. That's shipments for the whole region. The actual final NPD sales figures for those systems are:

NDS: 53.5M
PS2: 46.7M
NSW: ~43M

The 360's numbers were apparently revised by the NPD Group at some point, as existing monthly numbers add up to 43,258k, more than the roughly 43M the Switch is sitting at. The estimates for the Switch are apparently pretty spot-on, so the actual figure for the 360 has to be under 43M. The July report indicated that as of that month the Switch was under a million behind the 360, which the estimates for the Switch at the time had it pegged at a bit over 41.8M, meaning the 360 had to have sold only 42.8M at most, which in turn means the old monthly numbers add up to a figure that overtracked the 360's lifetime numbers by no less than ~460k. The Switch was also stated to be less than 5M behind the PS2, which is consistent with the 46.7M figure.

Sorry, I'll go review my work. Thanks!

I was finding record for the DS being
NDS:52.78M
I based it on https://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41637/USA/
Any weekly video game chart after Dec 28th 2013 doesn't have any DS hardware numbers. But the DS would sell until May 20th 2014 so I trust 57.92M

The weekly charts for VGChartz are out of date it is better to use the hardware tool: https://www.vgchartz.com/tools/hw_date.php

VGChartz current estimates put the DS in the USA at 53.8m by the end of 2013. The DS only shipped 0.04m units after December 31st 2013 so 53.8m can be taken as the lifetime sales estimate.

57.92m is the sales in NA, which includes Canada. It is not just USA.

Americas (North & South America) - 59.93m (Nintendo figures as of March 31st 2014)
North America - 57.92m (VGChartz Estimate)
USA - 53.8m (VGChartz estimate)

Here you can see the list:

https://www.vgchartz.com/charts/platform_totals/Hardware.php/?sort=NA

DS: 57.92M

PS2: 53.65M

NSW: 47.26M

NSW still has a long way to reach the PS2 ..

And as @trunkswd noted, the DS is over 53M in US, therefore PS2 must be somewhere around 50M. NSW is at 43M in US. So still 7M to go ..

I originally did base it off of the hardware tool, but noticed it said NA and not USA after, so thank you for correcting me. Thanks Zippy!
Also, sorry for writing 57.92 I meant 53.5 from your post earlier.
Trunks was awesome to provide the numbers as well. I appreciate the work that is put through this.

I noticed they were out of date since they didn't go past Dec 28th 2018, but that was the only VGChartz site that I could find that had USA only data for consoles older than April 2015.

Thank you Trunks!
NDS:53.31M

Switch:42.96M
Xbox 360:42.73M

Where is that PS2 number came in from ? I can't find raw data for the US PS2 numbers  ?

You meant the 360 ones ?

PS2 is at 53M at least here on hardware by date for the US data. NPD is again US only so how can 6M difference be ?

No. That 50M+ figure for the PS2 is for North America. As in the whole continent, Canada, Mexico, etc., included.

NPD numbers, the focus of this thread, are strictly for the United States.

Okay. Where is that figure taken from ? I can't find the exact US PS2 numbers.

This is what i have, data sourced from retro archive threads on Installbase and Neogaf.

* Estimate as of 30 November, 2023

So .. With that data the PS2 vs NSW in US chart should look something like this:

Of course we don't have the info for every month and every third, so I even them out but it has to be between 90% and 100% accurate. Enjoy.

Okay. Where is that figure taken from ? I can't find the exact US PS2 numbers.

Here's the yearly figures, rounded to the nearest thousand:

2000: 1101k
2001: 6223k
2002: 8574k
2003: 6394k
2004: 4609k
2005: 5525k
2006: 4695k
2007: 3943k
2008: 2503k
2009: 1800k
2010: 750k
2011: 213k
2012-13: 273k

TOTAL: 46,603k

It takes some digging to find old NPD numbers, but I've had this data for a very long time, probably close to a decade now.

I discovered that the 46.7M figure was a slight error on my part, as I had apparently put 4.7M as my 2004 figure rather than 4.6M. I have that fixed now. It is worth pointing out that older NPD data apparently may have some slight errors, and not all sources agree 100%, so that lifetime total may not be exact, but close enough. It's not going to be like a million off or something huge. Probably no more than 300k lifetime. For example, a Wedbush report claims 46.4M lifetime as of Dec. 2013 (when NPD stopped tracking the PS2), and as you can see above some other data some have collected show something entirely different. But they're all very close.

This means that the Switch only needs to sell another ~3.6M to match the PS2 lifetime in the U.S., something it should accomplish before the end of next year.

Wow you two! These are just wonderful! Thank you! This information is really cool to see

Do you happen to have old data regarding worldwide weekly/monthly sales? Im trying to make a master document for myself (and for anyone that wants it as well, its on an Excel sheet) concerning lifetime sales (and ive recently included the regions as VGChartz has, and graphs). Im just trying to make it a bit easier to find all the information for myself so that way I don't have to roam the eternities of the internet looking for data that might not be correct. Ive been using VGChartz data for a lot of the console sales info but anything before 2004 is difficult.
Any help would be appreciated

I only have fiscal yearly data for worldwide sales and fiscal quarterly data since 2001 for Nintendo console's and since the PS3 era for playstation.
