This makes no sense. It's like saying people don't buy next versions of iPhone because they already have one. There is nothing more intuitive or easy to understand than Switch 2.

Of course, many people use consoles for as long they can. Those are the late adopts. They purchase consoles when they are either finding their consoles outdated, or there are no more new games to play or because their consoles are starting to tear apart.

The point of going to another name it to showcase a different concept or idea. If Nintendo wants to sell another idea then I'm all for a new name. But if it's just a straight upgrade then it's a no brainer calling it Switch 2.

Yeah, well thats my point. If its just another more powerful Switch with an added gimmick it wont do as well. Also Iphone has a way bigger core fanbase than Nintendo consoles has. The Wii U pretty much represents the Nintendo core gamers.

Wii U represent Nintendo home console core gamers and even barely, because the system was very short lived and lacking system sellers (No 3D Mario, no 3D Zelda). Nintendo has a huge fanbase on handheld side. Animal Crossing e Pokemon fanbases are humongous and they will make a presence on Switch 2 or whatever it's called. 30 to 40 million is more representative of the size of Nintendo fanbase. Remember being a Nintendo fan is primarily being a fan of their IPs, if there is no such IPs there is no fanbase. The average Pokemon fan don't care if the system is called Switch 2, Super or Ultra they just want to play the new Pokemon game

Switch 2 won't sell as much as standard Switch and this is not a problem by any means. The only way to repeat original Switch sales is having a new tec to satisfy a market that don't exist yet. It can happen, but at risk of them alienating part of Switch userbase so the sales being bigger than original Switch are not guaranteed by any means. Will they do that? I dunno, let's see

I dont know what you are arguing now? I never said the next Nintendo console wont do great if they call it the Switch 2. And you seem to think the same. I just think it will do better with a new name instead of Switch 2. Not saying it will fail with that name or anything.

I can make another extreme comparison. What if the next Nintendo console is called the Nintendo Focus? It would probably do well if its a good product, right? Now imagine the same product, but they call it the Nintendo Cancer. You think it would do better or the same? Probably not because people have a negative association with the word cancer. Just like some have a negative association with the word Switch now if they dislike the Switch. Theres probably not that many of them since the Switch seems to be very beloved. I know I love mine. I just think the roof has already been hit with the Switch name.

Im just saying names matter. But of course they are not the only thing that matters.

I prefer Switch 2 because it means we will then get Switch 3, 4 and 5 just like Playstation

Super Switch means they will go to some weird name in the next generation

Precisely.

When you have a proven, legit success, there’s no need to complicate things w/ weird names.

You seem to be mistaking correlation with causation, it’s like saying Sony should stick to even numbers because PS2/PS4 sold better than PS1/PS3 or that consoles that sell over 150 million will have successors that sell roughly half (PS2/DS to PS3/3DS). I’m sure we can find other silly examples of technically true statements that have no relevance.

No, Wii U does not represent the Nintendo core gamer. You cannot ignore Nintendo’s more successful device that made up ~85% of their hardware & ~80% of their software sales that generation. For many Nintendo fans there was no reason to purchase a $300 Wii U for games like NSMBU, 3D World, MK8, SSB4, WW/TP HD when you could get a 3DS for roughly half that with games like NSMB2, 3D Land, MK7, SSB4, OoT/MM 3D and a bunch of other big hits like Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Luigi’s Mansion, etc. It’s like saying Vita represents the core PlayStation gamer while ignoring PS4.

At the end of the day its just opinions. I cant prove what I say is true and you cant prove what you say is true. We can only believe what we think might be true.

Ill give you the WII U argument though. I admit that is a flawed argument from my part.

I like the name Super Switch better.

Well Nintendo has never made a more successful console with a similar name.

Super NES sold less than the NES

Keep in mind that the SNES also had more competition from SEGA Mega Drive which shifted 30~ million.

The NES had that generation locked up as they were the ones that reinvigorated a dying industry.

GBA sold less than the GB

Keep in mind that the Gameboy Advance was released in 2001 and Nintendo released the DS in 2004.
So it only had 3 years to truly shine without competition or a successor.

The Gameboy on the other hand came out in 1989 and was revised in 1996 with the Gameboy Pocket and that continued with the Gameboy colour in 1998. - That family didn't stop until 2003.

So that system technically had 12 years to shine in the market.

And despite the Gameboy Advance having the impact of the DS for the majority of it's life, it still sold 81~ million units.

I think that's a fair effort for the GBA.

Yeah, the GBA did great. If it had the same life as the GB, it might have outsold it.

As I said, sure the SNES had more competition, but in a time where console gaming was thriving. The NES had to get the whole console industry in the US out of a crash. They both had obstacles to overcome.

Same here.

The Switch has been my favorite nintendo home console since the SNES - so calling the successor "Super Switch" with hopefully b/c will be good.
