Dam only 720p and 900p on xbox one and ps4 and 30fps with dips. I'm expecting more extreme performance and visual cut backs on switch

This is pretty normal performance for any open world 3rd party game on PS4,

In fact the base last gen version holds up so well I'm convinced we've only touched the dip of the iceberg in terms of what developers will showcase on nextgen in a few years.

I thought most open world on ps4 would be 1080p and 30fps. 900p isn't really normal on ps4 I'd think

Isn't Spider-man running at 900p on PS4 ?

1080p is more common, but 900p on PS4 isn't that unusual.

Off the top of my head, titles that run at 900p include Resident Evil Village, Nier Automata, Tekken 7, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Battlefield 4, Battlefield Hardline, Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, The Witness, Shadow of the Beast, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Unity, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

That said, Hogwarts is indeed more demanding than most PS4 games, being designed first for the next generation.

Switch version has been delayed until November so sounds like a challenging port.

I don't even see the point of this game releasing on Switch. It's a game that benefits a lot of having a big screen with good resolution to display Hogwarts on its fully glory. The biggest quality of the game is the immersion and absolutely gorgeous scenarios, both external and internal (the amount of details in classrooms, stores, etc are superior to anything I've ever seen in gaming) and having to deal with huge graphical compromises will really impact the quality of immersion. Without immersion everything else on this game just falls apart

The gameplay is very mid, absolutely do not stand out without the Wirzading World background to help selling it. The battles are fine, but will be an absolutely mess on Switch if they cannot keep framerate stable (which I'm 100% sure they can't btw)

Story is also mid, to not say outright boring. Remove Hogwarts and all giggles that comes with it and nobody would give a damn about the writing

Hope it just gets canceled. It's not good to have a instalbase of millions of people thinking a good game is awful because the system cannot run it in a acceptable state. Wait for Switch 2 and release it, can't be that far away

There’s more than resolution in a game, the cutback of shadows, downgrade in graphical/te textures details on the Switch version will be very interesting.

I’ll say just to wait and release it on the Switch 2

Switch is a massively popular system and Hogwarts Legacy is a massively popular game.

It's the same reason that saw Call of Duty get ports to the Wii, despite them having to be extensively downgraded to run on it.

Japan is also a factor; they love Harry Potter, but they do not love Playstation or Xbox.

Their CEO of games commented on this a few days ago: “We see the Switch version as a huge success due to its installed base and its fan base, with the Harry Potter franchise obviously attracting a really large audience globally. With markets like Japan where Nintendo is largely widespread and where Harry Potter is very strong in terms of popularity, we expect big results from the Switch version."

As for the game not being worth it if it's downgraded, it's worth bearing in mind that casual gamers don't care as much about graphics as more enthusiast gamers. Look at how popular Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are despite them looking and running like crap.

Canceling the Switch version and going for Switch 2 instead is certainly a possibility, but we have no clue when Switch 2 will come; Nintendo just confirmed it's not happening this Financial Year, so it could be as far off as end of 2024 or even 2025.

Didn't notice that there has been a new thread for it as I already posted in the old DF: Hogwarts Legacy thread.

Therefore, I'll post it again here:

Well if I dare to do an apples to oranges comparison, Nier Automata runs at 900p with a non-stable 60fps on PS4 but 1080p at a very stable 30fps on Switch.

If they put the effort in it, they can do a great stuff.

Well the increase in resolution is only 30% while PS4 targets to increase FPS by 100%. Even if PS4 doesn't reach a stable framerate (no clue how close it is on reaching 60 FPS), it takes much more power to run a game in 900p 60 FPS compared to 1080p 30 FPS. And as you mentioned it is an apples to oranges comparison as the Switch port came out over 5 years later. 5 years in which new performance saving solutions have been created. I have no doubt that they could release a new PS4 version tomorrow that runs the game with a 1080p resolution and a stable 60 FPS framerate (obviously that would take more than a simple patch).

But you're kinda proving my point. There's a gap between each of the following consoles (in that order): Series S, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

My guess is:

Series S: Performance: 792p 60 FPS (very unstable), Fidelity: 1080p 30 FPS (rather stable)
One X: likely no performance mode; 1200p-ish 30 FPS with lower visual detail than Series S fidelity mode (same for every following console)
PS4 Pro: likely no performance mode; 1080p 30 FPS
PS4: definitely no performance mode; 900p 30 FPS
XOne: definitely no performance mode; 720-800p 30 FPS
Switch: definitely no performance mode; 600p-ish 30 FPS (docked)

Let's see how my prediction holds up.

One X: 1440p stable 30 FPS; unlocked framerate mode that mostly runs roughly at 35 FPS with lower visual detail than Series S fidelity mode (same for every following console)
PS4 Pro: 1080p stable 30 FPS; unlocked framerate mode that mostly runs at 40 FPS.
PS4: 900p unstable 30 FPS; unlocked framerate mode that mostly runs slightly above 35 FPS
XOne: 720p unstable 30 FPS; unlocked framerate mode that mostly runs slightly above 30 FPS
Switch: not yet released

Damn I was good.

Guess it's pretty clear why the Switch version had to be delayed again. 720p with a stable 30 FPS would be an absolute miracle.

I did see this; very good estimates you made.

And yeah with the Xbone already at 720p/30fps, there's not a whole lot of breathing room left for the Switch, as much less powerful hardware.

If they throw enough resources at the problem, perhaps they can achieve a Sniper Elite 4/Zombie Army 4 type miracle where it comes eerily close to PS4/Xbone through intensive low level optimization. The end result could be similar to something like Witcher 3 or World War Z on Switch.

I'm still half expecting it to be canceled, but if it does make it to release, it's going to be one of the most fascinating ports of recent times.
