Goddamn it, I REALLY hope Switch 1 finishes below 160m, above 161.8m, or Sony actually gives as an actual final tally for the PS2. Because if THAT'S where Switch 1 finishes, the debates are never going to end!!

With sentences like these some affected users may start to attack you for moving the goalpost lol

(I am kidding, that's just personal attitude towards me)

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

Polls: When will the Switch: Outsell the DS? / Outsell the PS2? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX

Around the Network

So maybe, we're like 2 years away from seeing the gaming crown coming back to oldest king alive.

Some will still argue that it's not fair comparison as the switch didn't just take the ps2's market but also the 3ds market.

Maybe it's an alt of certain users still desperately clinging to that for coping.

It's just personal attitude from you towards me, that's all. That is clear to everyone here. Other users do it, no problem, I do it - big problem, attack and accusations, for almost everything I say Switch related. Every other user tell what they feel like, no problemo for them.

Looks like we are at the moment of a console’s life where the amount of units that gets sold ≠ the amount of units that gets shipped. Nintendo is slowing down shipment as their demand is slowing down too.

That is one more thing where you were wrong @Phenomajp13 The fact that it's easier for me to use sold numbers is nothing connected to me wanting lower numbers. It is simply catching up when the demand is getting lower, so it's the same thing, in the end it's equal. See @Shtinamin_ post.

Lile i said i still say we have to wait. But i am carefully rising up my original minimum LTD prediction (155 million by march 2027) to 157 million by march 2027). But production won't stop before that date! Thats where i stay!

And yes, IF the Switch did beat the PS2 (and excluding that possibility is not a wise move anymore) there sure will be people who say that its "suddenly" a handheld (again) and cannot be compared.

A definition that was strictly forbidden when the Switch launched in 2017 because that would have made it the most powerful handheld of all time even trouncing the Vita in every aspect!😉

UPDATE!!

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/nintendo-says-it-will-continue-to-support-switch-after-switch-2s-launch-as-long-as-theres-demand/

Switch support continues after Switch 2 launches!! Well first No Switch 2 before march 2025 from 2019, Doom: The Dark Ages for Switch 2 and now this!! People i ain't that bad with predictions!!

Eventually Switch will get there, because I believe as with the Famicom, the Switch will be on sale for a long a$$ time. Perhaps not in all regions mind and certainly not all SKU's so to clear up shelve space, but it will simply keep going.

When i called the Switch handheld back in 2017, people critisised me and told me its more like a home console "because Nintendo said so". They completley ignored the fact, that Switch Lite was handheld only in 2019, yet some people prepare to change their mind again only because the Switch might eventually surpass the PS2. They are afraid of something that did not happen and is not guaranteed, yet they start telling me that i "cannot compare" those systems because 1 is a handheld and the other one a console.🙂

Who are those people and how did they strictly forbid calling it a handheld? I've been using this website since 2007 and I don't remember reading anything like this. That's as weird a claim as everyone supposedly calling Kinect a failure...

The Switch is technically a handheld (form factor), but it doubles as a home console in purpose. This puts it in an advantageous position when compared to any home console or dedicated handheld. So if anyone wants to downplay its success, accepting it as a hybrid would be the better argument for them.

Switch (2017) trouncing the Vita (2011) in power is hardly more impressive than 3DS beating PSP or Wii beating the PS2. Who on earth would be mad about a new device beating a 5 or 6 years older console?

Who else think that whatever the switch ends, sony will come and say "Oh, we found secret last ps2 numbers. What are the switch numbers ? Ah, so bad, we've done one million more" ?

Well, except if the switch reaches something like 170, but it's very unlikely, or else it would mean that nintendo decided to make the switch 1 a low budget switch 2 option.

I think that if Switch gets really close to 160 but don't reach it, Sony will come out and say exact number that will be between 160-160.6M range in order to confirm they are N1. But if Switch passes the 160M, Sony won't update the PS2 figure anymore and the latest will remain on their website - over 160M

Yeah, I agree with that statement.  I don't think Sony's official number will change beyond "More than 160.0 million" just for the sake of ambiguity.
