I hope Nintendo doesnt buy anyone - would rather have MS or Sony buy - more chance of multiplatform support.

I would like them buying a bunch of JP developers, Sony doesn't care for Japan anymore and MS never cared

The only time any buyouts would affect Nintendo is if one were to buy #1 Capcom, #2 Platinum Games...and #3 Square at a far distance.

Nintendo does well with their own 1st party games but those 3 are probably their biggest supporters for games that Nintendo doesn't make but fans would like on their system.

Yes, if those 3 were bought and become Sony/MS properties I would think twice before buying a Nintendo console again. Besides Nintendo itself those studios have my favorite japanese games

But I also don't want Nintendo to buy neither. Square and Capcom make great looking games like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Rider... they won't be the same under Nintendo hardware and Nintendo approach about hardware

Hope they keep being third parties

Didn’t they announce they are spending 4 billion dollars or some crazy amount to make a new development building?

They are not buying other studios. Why would they? They are expanding themselves.

With the expansion comes to new hiring I’m sure.

And yet, Nintendo still wins lol. It's insane how they can dominate with such little help, but there ya go.

Nintendo actually has more power if MS buys up a bunch of big third parties, it weakens Sony primarily. So let the acquistion wars continue, Nintendo has done just fine without say ... GTA for years. How's Sony going to do if MS buys Take 2? They're going to be hurt badly.

The damage Microsoft's acquisitions leave on Playstation will mostly be offset by Sony's growth which will include some anti-consumer acquisitions of their own (Bungie is their 1st, or would be their 1st once their poducts skip Xbox). On the other hand, the damage and declining sales those games about to suffer from skipping Playstation (and being included on Game Pass) will not be offset by whatever MS is planning. Microsoft will of course benefit, but AB and Znimax? Not so much...

Anyone thinking Sony are broke and can't respond is in for a rude awakening. Worst case scenaio, they'll revert to full Playstation exclusivity; they currently don't entertain the thought because the demand far exceeds their ability to produce consoles.

Big acqusitions will soon be considered the worst thing to have happend to console gaming since paid online. Nintendo won't suffer much, but a part of the playerbase will when or if Square and Capcom get bought out by a platform holder. Everyone loses. Well over a 100 billion dollars down the drain and yet some people are celebrating it. Imagine those billions being used to establish new studios or fund/expand/cultivate smaller studios. I don't want to hear clowns equating unnecessary multi billion dollar acquisitions to the pennies Sony and others pay to secure exclusives and time exclusives, which is a standard industry practice (shitty as it may be).

Exactly! I don't like this trend, I want it to stop sooner rather than later. All big players in the industry should stay independent. Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, Ubi, Platinum, Koei Tecmo, anyone. All of them should only depend on their own products/games, but not on the wallets of their masters.

100% agreed, many of my all-time favorite developers have been acquired, and subsequently ruined, by major publishers and companies. EA's list of kills alone is impressive (and disheartening). This mega-corporation structure in entertainment, and cultural output in general, is only damaging long-term and only serves to stifle creative freedom and punish risk-taking.

The only regret i have with Nintendo is that they sold rare. Wish they at least kept the IP.

Okay so according to democracy rules, we should ban the dull fite

Nintendo has said before that they don't like just buying studios wholesale, not unless they have already partnered with them for a while and are confident that all the developers and teams want to work with Nintendo. They also tend to go for smaller studios and only purchase them after a couple years of exclusive games: Retro Studios, Monolith Soft, and Next Level games. The most likely studio for Nintendo to buy next is Mercurysteam given the work they've put in on Luigi's Mansion and Metroid. Nintendo's 'Cash on Hand' assets are big enough ($16.37B) for them to buy any number of Japanese companies, but I doubt they would. They already corner the market in Japan and so 3rd parties with a focus in Japan will have to develop for them if they want to stay competitive.

However, if they were going to buy a bigger company I think Sega would be a smart move. Sonic fits right in with the classic Nintendo profile and they've been his strongest platform for sales for years now iirc. Plus it would bring in Atlus which is a studio on the rise as Persona and SMT are increasing in popularity. Yakuza would also come with the deal and aside from being a fun series, it would fill a vacant niche in Nintendo's typical line-up.
