The changes in the formula call my attention, and it's getting good reviews, but I'd prefer to wait for user impressions before making a decision.

Definitely getting this, but at a later point in time. Gameplay looks freacking great and reception so far is great too.

Preordered last minute and just found out it's coming tomorrow. Hyped!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Character models are okay... But poor animation quality.

Game world looks like ass... Even worst in docked mode on a massive display... It's extremely barren, lacking details, lots of pop in with short draw distances.
Pretty sure there are Xbox 360 games from 10 years ago with superior visuals in an open world setting... Heck. Breath of the Wild is 5 years old now and looks far superior.
Sticking to playing it in handheld on my OLED Switch... Looks the best that way.

Lack of voice acting.

Does have that "Pokemon Charm" and the Gameplay mechanics seem solid.

See how I feel with a few more hours of game time... Visuals are definitely the big first impression though... And a big let down after playing Metroid Dread.

I think it looks boring, empty, Gamecube era graphics. Easy pass for me. But, I also haven't had an interest in Pokemon since Fire Red.

About the difficulty: some reviews suggest it is indeed a bit more challenging. Some of the bosses might be leveled above you and apparently wild pokemon can gang up on you and attack you at the same time.

Wait what?

That sounds awesome if it can deliver as you wrote it, I had not heard about that.

While I agree the looks of the game is kind of "mehh" I also am of the mind that graphics actually don't matter that much. Game play is king!

I've been intrigued by this game since the first reveal, I've just not been hyped. Still undecided if I will get it or not.

You see this as a negative, I see this as a positive.

Here at 2:20 IGN says that multiple aggressive Pokemon can join a battle and that can end up being really tough:

This has more information, like that the trainer has it's own health and can throw stuff to fight themself without using a Pokemon.

Looks good, very good reviews, should be here today

Sounds like difficulty is good, new core gameplay loop of catching and battling is good, worlds are nice and big and there are lots of side quests to do.

The downsides seem to be mediocre half-assed effort on the graphics (graphics look alright to me in pics and videos, mostly i just notice lazy effort like low res textures and the water looks pretty bad, but the IGN review video did show horrible framerate on pokemon animations once they pop into view but are still far away - hopefully terrible stuff like that gets patched), a fairly empty world (similar to critiques of BotW), and no puzzles or dungeons or anything like that which would make exploring and finding new areas exciting.

My only concern is the gameplay loop could get old after a while if exploring the big world isn't very interesting, though the side quests (which I guess come in the second half of the game) are supposed to be good, but a big part of a large world design like this is that exploring the world should be interesting. Seems so close to the ideal Pokemon game except a lack of design/development effort leaves it as a good but flawed game.

Will probably watch someone play it on Twitch before deciding to buy it, or maybe wait to see if they make some improvement through patches.
