So weird to see the Switch still below the 3DS in Japan despite overselling it completely in global.

I really wonder if it will manage to reach DS levels. 2 stuff:
- the DS pretty much died in its 5th year (reaching 29 million in 5 years and 3 million in the coming 3 years after that)
- the Switch seems to have a longer run, so another year at 5+ million should do the trick

Launch aligned as of these numbers:

ConsoleTotal SalesWeek 247 Sales
Nintendo DS27,483,77565,313
Nintendo Switch22,026,770167,778
Nintendo 3DS19,387,50428,593

Nintendo DS Week 247 = August 23rd 2009
Nintendo 3DS Week 247 = November 15th 2015
Nintendo Switch Week 247 = November 21st 2021

So Switch is currently 5.4m units behind DS. It will be very tough to recover that ground, but not impossible. It did gain 0.1m back this week though have to bare in mind the comparison is pokemon launch week in November to some random August week for DS lol.

It really comes down to how much switch sales drops next year, and when the successor launches. There's no doubt Switch 2022 will be a lot better than DS 2010 and the gap will be closing continually but I'm not convinced it will be able to close it completely before it is replaced.

3DS outsold PS4 this week.

Obviously some more OLED model stock. I thought that the Pokémon bundles were with the regular model or Switch Lite.

Animal Crossing inching closer to 7 million physically, a holiday bump might get it there by the end of the year.

Not surprised at the low PS5 stock at all. The chip shortage is one thing but Sony is likely shipping everything over to US/Europe for Black Friday sales this week.

But that paltry amount is outright disrespectful, surely shipping an extra 10k this week to Japan isn't going to hurt their Black friday sales in the west very much.

Pokemon had the second strongest launch in the region for Switch I imagine with digital it's already pass 2m.

Switch will catch and beat DS eventually, this console has legs like no other Nintendo console before it.

It is looking increasingly likely that 2021 sales will just fall short of 2020 perhaps finishing at around 5.8m. This is to be expected since globally 2021 will also be behind 2020, still another huge year though.

Wait, really? That is crazy. PS4 launched three years later than 3DS in Japan. It overtook the handheld, but I guess Nintendo consoles after all have better legs than Sony ones, right?

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

Again, these are made by Hiska-kun on Installbase.

Left out the one already posted by ShadowLink93.

Ps4 is dying because they don’t have the material it seems to produce the console. The thing is sold out everywhere. I really do think it would have higher sales and could reach 120 million if Sony made more. Ps5 is about to get outsold by series in Japan. And tbh that’s on Sony.
