So weird to see the Switch still below the 3DS in Japan despite overselling it completely in global.

I really wonder if it will manage to reach DS levels. 2 stuff:
- the DS pretty much died in its 5th year (reaching 29 million in 5 years and 3 million in the coming 3 years after that)
- the Switch seems to have a longer run, so another year at 5+ million should do the trick

Launch aligned as of these numbers:

ConsoleTotal SalesWeek 247 Sales
Nintendo DS27,483,77565,313
Nintendo Switch22,026,770167,778
Nintendo 3DS19,387,50428,593

Nintendo DS Week 247 = August 23rd 2009
Nintendo 3DS Week 247 = November 15th 2015
Nintendo Switch Week 247 = November 21st 2021

So Switch is currently 5.4m units behind DS. It will be very tough to recover that ground, but not impossible. It did gain 0.1m back this week though have to bare in mind the comparison is pokemon launch week in November to some random August week for DS lol.

It really comes down to how much switch sales drops next year, and when the successor launches. There's no doubt Switch 2022 will be a lot better than DS 2010 and the gap will be closing continually but I'm not convinced it will be able to close it completely before it is replaced.
