You've mistaken my sarcasm about your logic, for my logic.

Does the DS automatically apply its features, or does the hardware require separate software to make it work as intended?

Do all (PS4) games make (full) use of the PS5 DS? If a game were designed to be better experienced without the DS features, than what? Add DS capabilities just because the hardware can regardless?

Optional service vs necessary hardware? I thought you didn't even need an XB console to enjoy the "full XB experience" on PC with GP? I wonder how often the optional XBSX actually puts out even close to its expected monstrous 12TF?

I feel we are on very different pages.

Lets just agree to disagree.

Not really a success, pretty much comparable to the 3DS, aka heavily discounted with huge number of revisions to push sales as much as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if they would put One S consoles in corn flakes boxes (and that's the biggest difference with the Wii U: Nintendo never really discounted the console despite its abyssimal sales).

But overall, it got pretty much all 3rd party games, one revision is the most powerful console of the generation, and the console has game pass, so I guess we got that because of the lack of success of the console (we all know how lazy companies can be when they have success)

Different books I think.

Agreed.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

One could say the struggles of the Xbone itself stems from Xbox 360's success. Similar story to Sony after the PS2 and Nintendo after the Wii/DS.

Sure, it was a success in that the industry learned from it, MS learned from it, and MS has remained in the business.

I feel like 3DS isn't that great of a comparison just because I feel like perception of the system was probably a bit more positive on not just the consumer side, but the company side too.

Initially they overestimated, but I think they started to realize that there will be an inevitable drop because of mobile gaming.  I don't think the XBox One was quite the same.

By that metric wouldn't even the Wii U and Vita be successes?

Probably just regurgitating what everybody else has already touched on, but here we go.

I would say that it was successful based solely on the virtue that it had to overcome such a disastrous launch and the aftershocks of Microsoft destroying their First Party studios through Kinectification and mismanagement.

The fact that the Xbox brand is still very much alive and on its way to profiting heavily again in the future as their GamePass strategy continues to grow and prosper is a great victory for them. In the long run, I think they are making good, future proofed moves. I personally know a lot of people that are considering moving from PS4 to Series solely due to Gamepass and the Bethesda purchase. In that regard it feels like the Shift from PS2 to Xbox360, although Sony will be fine this time around as they have their own niches and reasons to own a console. I say all of this even though I am heavy on collecting physical games and know that Xbox success will probably end up killing physical game media as we know it.

That being said though, Microsoft still hasn't matched the cultural heights and popularity of their pre-Kinect Xbox 360 Era yet. Maybe one day grandma's will refer to game consoles exclusively as Xboxes , but right now Nintendo and Sony have that cultural recognition locked up for now.

Sorry for the bad Grammer and spelling. Difficult to type on mobile because of the GIANT ENEMY ADS on mobile.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

In some sense, yes.  But, it is not clear to me that Sony and Nintendo learned as much from those flops as MS learned from XBone.  The XBone's struggles pushed MS to completely refocus their gaming business.  Sony just stopped doing handhelds, and I don't see that Nintendo really changed anything about how they operate at all.

Nintendo's marketing was shit back then, now it isn't. The Wii U had alot of droughts because they also had to make games for the 3DS. The Switch is the product of them learning from the Wii U.
