Mostly due to stock issues, 94% of the physical release were sold.

Do we have comparisons with Worlds physical release and sell through? And digital for that matter. I'm surprised considering how much bigger Switch's install base was but I guess its software market (in terms of big sellers) is more crowded than PS4's.

People generally tend to overestimate the effect of install base. Especially for system sellers it doesn't matter that much, per the definition of system seller the ones wanting the game will get the system. And as both PS4 and Switch improved (and 3DS for that matter) in Monster Hunter week, it is clear that the game is a system seller. Also I think in Japan pretty much every possible fan on MonHun already more or less knows about the game series. So similar sales for World and Rise (which obviously is happening) isn't that surprising. We could have speculated if Rise as a game draws in more people, but it seems it is the same base.

Install base clearly made a big difference for Mario Kart 8.

Capcom understocked this game. 94% sell through at the time means there is no copy left to sell physically. Digital must be much higher than usual. Very good sales overal.

[NSW] The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬: Summer Memories Also Come in Five – 20,374 / NEW
[PS4] The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬: Summer Memories Also Come in Five – 10,378 / NEW

Can a certain someone explain this to me.

This show is very popular to harem anime fans:

Hmm, I guess Mario Kart is a game you have to own if you own a Nintendo system. But don't get one for.

Animal Crossing week had 380k last year. Switch should still lead YoY and will increase the gap during April, because of stock issues 2020.

392k and 282k AC second week, but Switch still leads YoY.

Around 2mil with digital is basically the standard first week for Monster Hunter.
I think this one could have longer legs than most other MH games. It'll outsell World pretty soon in Japan, since that one didn't have any legs.

From what we can tell, MH Rise sold 2m in Japan and 4m worldwide.  That speaks very well towards how MH Rise will do lifetime.  Before MH World, Monster Hunter sales outside of Japan were just a fraction of Japan's sales.

PS5 did amazing this week selling 62k+.  On any other week that would have been the main topic of discussion, but it is kind of getting buried because of MH launch.

I guess the difference with Mario Kart is that it's an extremely casual friendly game. I imagine this is why it scales well with the user base, whereas other core titles kind of have a roof based on how accessible they are and how much the entry appeals beyond the fanbase.

Great numbers for MHR, though I thought it'd do more than MHW, maybe Capcom undershipped it like others have said. Wish we had reliable digital numbers to campare. Anyway, MHR will most probably have better legs than MHW.

Excellent Switch sales as expected, and nice to see it stays above last year even if only by a little. Also, actually great numbers for the PS5.
