Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Biggest issue with Nintendo when they are successful is that they become too greedy

Edit

I would also add people are not factoring in Nintendo games holding value within this cost equation.  BotW (old game) has a resell value of $30.  TLoU 2 (new game) has a resell value of $17....  so cheap Sony games upfront is nice, but bites on the back end.  It is a double edged sword.  I made money on many of my Wii U titles, despite paying $60.

About this, I think not exactly everyone buy games thinking or selling them. Digital versions for instance can't be resell

I prefer getting physicals so I can resell it, but so far the only Switch game I resold was New Super Mario Bros U because this game is boring af. If your game is good I guess you are more likely to keep it, whether to play it again in the future or just for emotional purposes of holding a collection

I thin out my collection every few years, only because I know there isn't a chance I am going to replay 300+ games.  I always hated trying to sell $1,000 of games and the best offer is $50.  To a certain degree I like it when games hold value, makes it feel like I am pissing away less money.  Though there are some games I will not sell, like Souls.

On a related note, ironically I put Skyward and XII in a similar bucket, both are underappreciated.  Many view XII as a black sheep, but I think it is one of FF's best.  The gambit system was awesome.  I also liked the job board and monster hunts.

I really liked XII too. It didn't know people hate it until go to online forums. For SS I never liked motion controls so this game was really annoying, dropped it very fast (any games with motion controls are annoying for me)

Firstly, Metallox is a liar. If you'd ever tried pizza with pineapple you'd probably adore pizza.

Secondly, burgers are better with pineapple too, so you should buy a pineapple either way!

Hitler used to put pineapple on his pizza and look at what happened to him in the afterlife!

Considering Hawaiian Pizza wasn't a thing until 1957, he's probably a better example of what life without pineapple pizza results in.

Defecated invented by a Greek born Canadian pizza chef that wanted to be remembered forever as the fourth most evil chef ever after Cracco, Ramsay and Bastianich, but he actually stole the recipe from Hitler's cook before strangling him to bury his dirty secret!

For me, the biggest issue is pricing on software and peripherals, it's crazy to charge full price after years on the market for games. When the Wii released, the cost of a single controller was almost half that of the console itself.

Meanwhile, collectors online are paying $100 for Gamecube games and thousands for Neo Geo games from the 90s.

I agree with most of that, but what do you mean by the Wii pricing? The Wii was $250. A Wii Remote was $40, a nunchuck was $20. $60 is a lot less than $250, or even $200.

Are you talking about production costs? I don't know about the Wii, but I know the Wii U GamePad was a huge part of that console's cost (about half, at least later on).

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 156 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

A Wii was about 2500NOK when it released at home, a Wii-mote  + Nunchuck was around 1100NOK. Regional pricing, another staple of Nintendo's less successful policies, from a consumer standpoint anyway. As for the games part I mentioned, I remember when Super Mario Galaxy 2 released, the first one was still full price in retail stores (and mostly online as well). This is why my library of Switch games is so small, it's just too expensive.

Also; the Switch Pro Controller cost me around 900SEK when I got my Switch, about 50% more than an Xbox One controller or DS4 controller. In all fairness though, the Pro Controller is much better than both in my opinion.

This is true. I think Scandinavia having higher taxes make their games and peripherals more expensive, it's same in LA (joycons are around 550 BRL ~105USD here, a PS4 Dualshock is less than half of that). Microsoft and Sony choose to lower their profit margins so they can get more market share, but Nintendo doesn't like small profit margins

Stop spoiling our (and in my case hypocritical) use of the Hawaiian Pizza meme by spouting factual information.

LATE ADDITION:  Your behaviour forces me to spend time making up researching facts like this, its well known among conspiracy theorist and other credible        experts that Hitler faked his death and opened a Pizza Shop in 1957, fortunately he was found but escaped justice by choking on a piece of pineapple.

Meat with pineapple is a reasonable culinary mix to me, I have tried it and it tastes good. But tomato sauce with pineapple? Man, that's a big no.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.
