Forums - Politics - Gina Carano - Disney fired her, what does that solve?

As a left leaning person I despise the comments Gina said (at least as far as I read up on them, as I didn't follow the drama first-hand), but it worries me that so many are so willing to give a company the power to fire someone easily over political squabbles. That happened to left-leaning persons in the past and it will again if we don't restrict the ability of companies to do that. Just as a reminder:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_Ten

I don't want to compare Gina Carano with Edward Dmytryk. But I just have the gut feeling, that the next time it will not be Carano but a leftist. Because whatever people here in the thread claim: Disney isn't a leftist company or ruled by SJWs. They are a company ruled by capitalists. The decision to fire Carano was one they expect to take the least losses over compared the the backlash if they keep her.

Out of curiosity, what exactly did Gina say that you found worthy of despise? I've personally identified as left-leaning my entire life, but lately have been distancing myself from that side of the spectrum, not because my views have changed, but because the definitions of what it means to be left-leaning have changed. Under the old definition, I can't really find anything she said that is worth despising. If there's something I missed though, I'd be happy to hear it.

Ridicule of the mask mandate is bad, as the epidemic is actually killing people and therefore I despise everyone who help a notion that is in the end increasing the death toll. Supporting the ridiculous claims of voter fraud in the election is also meh. And the post in question, comparing forms of opression falls flat the moment one side in the comparison was killed for being what they are and the other is not. We shouldn't forget that killing is the ultimate tool of opression, so I am hesistant to compare that to people that see much softer pushback.

She wasn't trying to make the claim that modern conservatives are currently under the threat of genocide, but rather that the genocide of the Jews during WWII was the ultimate culmination of increasing dehumanization that occurred over a lengthy period of time. Hitler didn't just show up one day and convince a nation to eradicate a group of people. It was a gradual process. As time has progressed, over the last 5 or so years, conservative and right leaning people have consistently been demonized and vilified by the mainstream media, large swathes of politicians and pretty much all of academia. This is only going to intensify under the Biden administration as the idea of meritocracy is destroyed in favour of equity.

Gina wasn't claiming that it has reached the height of what the Jews went through during WWII (obviously). She's merely waving the red flag and bringing attention to the fact that we are currently walking a very dangerous path that is going to have terrible consequences for many, many people (of all sides of the political spectrum) in the not too distant future. Frankly, I agree with her. I think a civil and/or revolutionary war is inevitable at this point. Identity politics is absolutely poisonous and history has shown over and over that nothing good comes of it. It was at the forefront of the Russian revolution which ultimately culminated in nearly ending the world as we know it in the 1980s. In the future, people like Gina and myself will be proven correct, although I don't want to be. Give this video a watch, if interested.

If that is indeed what she intended to say, I agree. But maybe you project your interpretation into what she said. Or maybe I did. This is a problem in our modern communication, that things are so shortened and a proper dialog often isn't made. That is something every "side" is to blame for.

The world as we know it came nowhere  close to ending in the 1980s since the Soviet Union came close to collapsing in the late 70s already.  Also Paul Joseph Watson is pure garbage he is a hate monger and conspiracy nut anyone associated with Alex Jones is garbage and if you even remotely sane or logical you should never listen to any garbage that comes out of their mouths.

Someone claiming to be left-leaning politically and then telling people to watch a video by an InfoWars conspiracy theorist is a pretty sure sign that they are full of it, one way or the other.

Also Gina's point was dumb. It isn't just a coincidence that people have negative opinions of some people who hold conservative views. It is because those views often overlap with a lot of horrible shit and conservatives have resounding failed to distinguish themselves from those horrible views. Complaining "Someone disliking me for being a conservative is basically the same as Nazism" is and will always be a terrible and offensive take. There is no moral evil in disliking people when those people have given you a reason to dislike them through their words and actions.

It always astounds me how much the right complained about "safe spaces" and "snowflakes" and even "identity politics" given the current state of the party...

Generally, an apology and a change in behavior would be a good start.

I suggest you educate yourself on a bit of history before making such nonsensical claims. Also, instead of using the traditional leftist tactic of "this person has had bad takes, therefore every thing they ever say is wrong and should be ignored", how about you actually watch the video and then refute the argument presented if you disagree? Otherwise, you're contributing nothing to the discussion but ad hominem attacks, which amount to nothing.

Nah. The difference between classical liberals like myself and modern leftists (like yourself?) is that I'm willing to listen to anyone's perspective, regardless of any bad takes they may have had in the past (even a broken clock is right twice a day). As I told another poster, instead of blindly attacking his character, why don't you refute his actual argument?

Yeah nope InfoWars is full of bullshit so no I'm not going to watch any of their videos.  Also the Soviet Union came close to collapsing in the late 70s so nothing I said is nonsensical.  All the bs that is spewed on InfoWars on the other hand is pure nonsensical garbage.

Because some people have demonstrated themselves to be utterly devoid of value, and there is only so much time in a day. If someone lacks the intellectual honestly to be able to talk for five minutes without lying through their teeth, I see no value in going through their arguments with a fine toothed comb. Whether someone is worth listening to largely comes down to the integrity of their process in procuring information and coming to a conclusion based on that information. PJW hasn't had anything resembling integrity in decades.
