Forums - Nintendo - Switch Is Attracting A Large amount of Non-Console owners, Research Suggests: 25% of Owners Have No other console

A sample size of 9000 people polled is virtually meaningless, thats not even 0.001% of the Switch userbase.

It also means even by their metric 75% of new Switch owners also own another console even in a pandemic year which makes that crowd still the overwhelming majority even by the surveys own metric.

A 9k sample size for a population of 80 million is anything but meaningless

I'm more concerned with how the sample was chosen than with the sample size

I applaud Nintendo and the Switch for its runaway success.

I hope it goes past the PS2 since that will means that console gaming is thriving and expanding and i’m all here for it.

COVID-19 coupled with the perfectly timed release of Animal Crossing was a lightning in a bottle moment and it made almost everyone around the globe either interested or at least aware of console gaming because of quarantine.

I wonder how much of this is just that, a lightning in a bottle. Like the Wii. When the pandemic eventually recedes, will these people keep buying games or will they return to their former activities and leave the Switch gathering dust?

Why on Earth would Switch players stop buying games when the pandemic ends? They were already buying games in massive quantities before there was a plague.

If anything's a lightning in a bottle situation it's the perfect storm of bad circumstances and choices that led to the Wii U's failure. That was a one-off event, not a repeated pattern.

OK, this notion that people who owned a Wii didn't buy games is bullshit. It had about a 9 games per console ratio. I'm buying as many games for Switch during the pandemic as I was pre-pandemic.

This is an usually well working sample, if chosen randomly.

And you have to account also, that Wii has a bit lower attach rate because Nintendo dropped Wii support early. So it probably would be higher than 9 if Nintendo kept supporting the console.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo included Wii Sports apart of their software sales which was a packaged game so that attach rate number is inflated by nearly 1 so the attach rate is closer to 8. Still an impressive number though for a console that sold 100M and was dropped relatively quick.

Wrong. A random sample of 9000 in a population of 80 million calculates to a margin of error of 1%.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Yeah the notion that Wii owners bought it for Wii Sports/Fit, played nothing else, and stowed in away in the attic forever after a week was always an invention of salty fanboys, bitter that it was beating their preferred system.

Have two friends, Pc gamers, buy only three videogames: Wii, DS and Switch.

And one friend has stopped play everything, but now he plays on Switch. Because Switch could fit in your life.

the former-gamers seems far stronger on Switch.
